I had a look at your MediaPortal.log file and it was inconclusive - it doesn't show that you were trying to play a video, just that a recording had started. In fact, the final events listed at the end were to do with Zap2it EPG Client. Maybe that is the cause of your issue?

If you really want to nail this issue, I suggest that you reproduce the problem again and take note of the times that you started to watch the video and tried to FF, so we can relate those events to the entries in the Mediaportal.log file. Then attach that Mediaportal.log file here with a description of the steps (including the times) that you completed.

Also, check in Mediaportal Setup what video decoder you have selected (under Videos).

The more information you can provide, the better we are able to determine the likely cause.

The fact that no one else has responded to this post probably indicates that the problem is unique to your setup?

I am using "1) mpv decoder filter" as my video decoder, and installing tourettes microsoft hotfix did not help.

I started recording TV just before 15:25, and then about 15 seconds later, I started the video and began to FF it. It froze with "8x" displayed on the screen. I waited one minute before restarting the computer to see if it was just acting real slow. I am including all log files, just to be thorough. When I restarted windows, MP came back up for a few seconds, so there might be some extra activity in the log files after 15:26.

PS, it would be great if you could let me post the .bak files without having to rename them.

I have had a look through your MediaPortal.bak file (since this is the one created at the time of the "crash") and I notice that you started recording "'The Jamie Kennedy Experiment' on channel:50 G4P" at 15:25:01?

Then, it looks like you tried to play "C:\drive\videos\HD\IMAX.Antarctica.avi" at 15:25:09?

However, there are errors listed at 15:25:05 to do with your FolderDatabase3.db3 file ...

Either this file is corrupt, or it is pointing to folders that no longer exist? Run MediaPortal Setup again and check that you have all the folders for your videos set correctly. You may have to delete (or just rename, in case you want to restore it) the FolderDatabase3.db3 file and then run MediaPortal Setup to create a fresh one.

Were you trying to watch IMAX.Antarctica.avi when the crash occurred? If so, you might want to use GraphEdit to see what video decoder is being used by Mediaportal do decode this avi. Some video decoders handle FF better than others, so this might be a factor.

To use GraphEdit:-

1. start MediaPortal in windowed mode and play the video.

2. launch GraphEdit and then select File -> Connect to a remote graph and select the option displayed in the small dialog window.

3. a "graph" will be displayed showing you what filters have been connected - take note of the video decoder.

4. to change to a "preferred" decoder, you then need to use a tool like Radlight Filter Manger to modify the filter's merits. This needs to be done very carefully as it is easy to mess things up ...

Can you tell me what FolderDatabase3.db3 does?

Were you trying to watch IMAX.Antarctica.avi when the crash occurred?

I had begun FF it when it crashed. I can watch movies normally while recording, just not FF them if they are xvid or divx (WMV seems to have no problems).

The errors at 15.25.05 are confusing to me, because the crash happened only after I had started FFing the movie.

I will have to try graph edit tomorrow, as its late right now.

That's where the paths to all your media are stored, and it looks like the path "C:\drive\videos\HD\IMAX.Antarctica.avi" is either incorrect, or corrupted in the FolderDatabase3.db3 database file?

Do you really have a path called "C:\drive\videos\HD\IMAX.Antarctica.avi" ?

What video decoder is being used when you watch "IMAX.Antarctica.avi"?

Have you fixed the problem with the "incorrect path" error message?

There are 2 options displayed in the dialog window, one appears to be for the tv tuner, the other one for the movie that was playing. The movie goes to avi splitter then goes to divx decoder filter and then video mixing renderer 9.

So would the divx decoder filter be the problem?

Wouldn't changing the default video decoder in mediaportals settings change that?
