Disabling epg from chanels that doesnot sems to get the epg makes system still work. It doesnt freeze.

Could it be something about the timeout? Perhaps is stuck trying to get the epg info of chanels not sending it?

Just a thought.

Logs with and without EPG grabbing might help us to track down this problem.

    No, it doesn't.
I disabled epg grabbing for those channels that are not providing epg data. I takes longer until it freezes, but it keeps freezing.

Yesterday the background grabber started 3 times. The first two times everything went well but the 3rd time the TVService stopped with an error.
I attached some infos about this.

The popup "Connection to TV server lost" appeared at 20:21.

This is what I fount in the Windows event viewer:

I also attached some logs from the MediaPortal TV Service directory. And of course the MediaPortal logs.
After the crash yesterday I enabled the "debug logging function" So the next time this happens the will be more detailed logs.

From your logs and the error in Event Viewer, it appears that TV Server crashed and that the crash occurred in TsWriter.ax
I have no way to be sure but this behavior seems to be consistent with 0002986: weak signals can crash the tvservice - MediaPortal Bugtracker
So the actual problem might be (temporarily) bad signal.

Now, I noticed that you are using DVBC which makes it almost impossible to have a bad signal, but perhaps cabling is failing causing short bursts of errors at random intervals.

PS: I have not followed the "weak signal" issue thoroughly but it is my impression that the issue only affects DVBC and DVBS but not DVBT. If this is true, it may be a limit the range of code to be checked.

Is there a way to check the signal strength? Or something I could do to test my cabling?

I'll buy a new cable and check this again.

Me neither, but I cannot reproduce the crash of Tv-Service even if I detach the antenna from my DVB-T card during timeshift.

AW: MP freezes up after long period of inactivity

i don't have the same issue, but i can tell something about the weak signal thing ;)

detaching the cable of my DVB-T does not end up in a crash, it just gives me a "no signal" or "cannot start timeshift"!
half a year ago i had an antenna with its own power supply (don't know how it's exactly called in english - active antenna?). playing around with it made MP or TVserver crash several times in tsreader.ax or tswriter.ax.

my second MP with DVB-C runs now for a bit less than a year and crashed only once because of tswriter.ax. (not reproducable)

the third one with DVB-S runs for over a year now and never crashed due to weak signal...

-> i think it doesn't depend on the type of signal. i think there have to be several issues (hardware, other installed software ...). for example, my test recordings crashing my MP didn't crash MP installations of some developers.......

Our provider changed some frequencies (not sure), but i can't timeshift Hallmark anymore for example; but epg grabbing happens on that channel.

    After this the crash happens.

Im going to gather full logs..

seems to me if you really think it is in the EPG part of MP..
then simply enable "grab during timeshifting or recording" and you dont have to wait long (if EPG is the problem)...
if it still occurs overnight... EPG probably isnt the problem then I guess but more difficult to find..

    good luck..

for me it really is the epg part.
I'm now trying to locate the channel that is causing this, but this takes a LONG time :(
