I have the same issue. I can enter the music section and play an album, but mediaportal freezes when I hit the back button to try to return to the main menu. I have to reboot the computer to fix the issue.
I only had this issue after upgrading from 1.2 to 1.3, which I did this weekend. So this is a new issue for me. And it's a deal breaker since I cannot use music on my HTPC. Is there a way to downgrade back to 1.2?
I think that my problem is the same... When i was in 1.2 music worked as expected. I updated to 1.3 and didn't tested the music section till 2 weeks after upgrading, so i can't really assure 100% that the origin of the problem is the update, but i think that it is related to this.
I don't want to dowgrade to 1.2, i just want to solve this problem, everything else works flawlessly.
Please disastar, start mediaportal in debug mode (go to windows button and there is an option in mediaportal folder to start it in debug mode) and post your logs, maibe they can help experts solving the problem.
I'll upload logs tonight when I get home from work.
Let me ask you this: when you used to hit the back button from the album/artist display menu in Mediaportal 1.2, did it take you to a screen that showed your shares (a screen that showed a music folder)? Then you would hit back again and return to the main menu?
Yes, in 1.2 it was as you said. In 1.3 Mediaportal freezes before this screen is showed (in my case), so i can't see that... I think that video section works this way too (or worked this way in 1.2, i'm not at home now to check it), but i have no problem in video section. When i arrive home I will try to add a new local folder to music folders to see if this changes something.
I have done some tests:
1. I have added a new local folder to the music folder list and put it as default folder. I open mediaportal, go to music and it opens this folder. Music plays well but when i try to go back to the root menu of music section (where there have to appear 2 folders, the one i had and the one i have added now)it freezes.
2. I deselect the default folder. Just to view if i can enter in the root folders menu of music section. I open mediaportal and when i enter in music section it freezes showing nothing (except the backgroud image of all mediaportal menus)
Hi DJ,
I have resolved the issue. The fix is to set the default music view to anything other than "shares". When you hit the back button, it tries to display the root share directory structure, which appears to not be supported in MediaPortal 1.3+. This results in the program "freezing". You can set your default view in the MediaPortal configuration tool or inside the music menu in MediaPortal itself. The configuration utility option can be seen here:
The inside MP option is easy. Open music, go to the sidebar options, and change the view to anything other than "shares". It should remember your option when you restart MP. I changed my default view to "Albums" and changed the default display option to "large icons" from within the configuration tool. The back button now works without freezing MP. Let me know if you need a step-by-step walk-through and I'll throw some screenshots up.
That worked!! Thank you!! So there is a bug... I will open a request in the bugtracker about this. Menawhile i can use this workaround but i need the share view because my music is structured in lots of folders and subfolders.
I'm using MP 1.8 an I think I have the same problem. But I could not follow you which steps I have to do, to fix the problem.
Could you please give some extra infos? My Music screen is empty and MP freezes completely.
