    MediaPortal Version: 1.1.3
    MediaPortal Skin: Blue3 Wide
    Windows Version: Windows 7 32bit
CPU Type: Intel Core Duo 2 3.16 GHz
    HDD: 10.7TBs (eight drives)
    Memory: 4GB DDR2-1066
    Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro
Video Card: HIS Radeon HD 3650 Isilence III 512MB GDDR3
    Video Card Driver: 10.7
    Sound Card: Realtek HD on-board
    Sound Card Driver: ALC1200_Audio_V6015859_Windows7
    MPEG2 Video Codec: MPC Gabest
    MPEG2 Audio Codec: MPC MPA
    h.264 Video Codec: Core AVC
    Remote: Microsoft MCE

This thing is really annoying and hard to reproduce (predict ?). Once a day or so Media Portal hangs my PC completely and a hard reset is required. AFAI can tell this only happens when I press the STOP button on my MCE remote to end the playback (usually at the end of a TV show). I tried different codec combinations, to no avail. When I try to reproduce the hang with the same video file, I can't. It's especially annoying when I am downloading something in the background and all is lost with the hard reset.

I even did a clean install of 1.2.0 beta ( this was happening on 1.1.3 as well). I don't have any logs, because of the hard reset involved (files not saved).

Anyone experienced something like this ?

    thank you!

    Hi caprica13

Sounds like a nasty problem. :(

I don't have any logs, because of the hard reset involved (files not saved).
If I'm not very much mistaken, you should be able to grab logs regardless of whether you hard reset or not. After you restart, use the watchdog with option 3 to create a zip file containing all the existing logs...

    0. Problem occurs.
    1. Restart.
    2. Locate and follow the "debug mode" shortcut in the Team MediaPortal folder in your start menu.
    3. Select option 3 "export all currently present logs".
    4. Post the zip file here.

There is more detailed information about the watchdog and posting logs in our wiki -->here<-- if you need it.

I'd also take a look at the system event logs (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer) and see if there are any problems logged that match the times when the hangs occured.

thanks for the tip. I've had a couple of blue screens for a change, so I've changed my ATI Catalyst Driver from 11.7 back to 10.11. I have a feeling this is either a video driver issue or something to do with the TV series plugin or StreamedMP skin. ...waiting for another hang to get the logs

I have reinstalled MP 1.1.3 to a clean state, reinstalled the ATI driver to 10.7 and successfully played and stopped and played and stopped dozens of TV episodes.
Then I've installed the TV-Series plugin and the first TV episode I've played through it hanged my computer completely.

Now I am back to playing files through VIDEOS. TV-Series plugin is now uninstalled and I think I'll be keeping it that way. I am really sick of having to hard reset my PC.

Logs attached if anyone's interested. cheers.

    Hi caprica13

I'm wondering whether this only happens with certain shows/episodes/movies. In other words, are you able to reproduce the crash over and over again with particular files. Reason I ask is this in your latest logs:

    2011-08-12 15:53:40.005166 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: VideoPlayer:play E:\Movies\The Mask.720p.mkv

2011-08-12 15:53:40.364186 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: Failed filter: MainConcept (Adobe2) AAC Decoder not found MainConcept (Adobe2) AAC Decoder

I'm just wondering if the missing codec is causing a crash when MP attempts to clean up after the movie finishes...

unfortunately it happens randomly. I can't really reproduce this at will. I can play the same file over and over, stopping and resuming and it won't crash the same way as minutes before

just had another complete hang. I changed the codecs a bit as you can see, but it still hanged

    Hi again caprica13

    unfortunately it happens randomly.
Well, at least even that information tells us something about the problem, so that is good to know :)thx:), but... to be honest I'm at a loss try to explain this now. I don't see anything in the logs to indicate what is going on and we can't seem to identify a pattern. Is there *any* other information at all that you are able to tell me - even the smallest thing may be important...
