I think what joe was getting at in his above post was your MSSql database may be foobar, so create a clean one, but now you seem to be getting connection errors, one thing we have found is once the db gets misinformation especially on hardware, it can be a nightmare to correct.

    So recommendation.

Uninstall TVServer and TVPlugin, this will ask you if you wish to delete all information, accept this option.

Next install MSSQL management studio express, this will give you direct access to the database, login using username\password that you chose, under databases select any db's that have been created by TVServer or yourself (MPTVDbRC3 default), right click and select delete.

Once above done reinstall TVServer\plugin and reconfigure as in below order.

Leave the default login sa and password MediaPortal.

start TVServer config, go to TV section and configure as here TV-Server/Configuration/TVServers/HybridCards - MediaPortal Manual Documentation

Once done you can then disable unused parts of cards, now tune each satellite card individually

Now select the recording\timeshifting folders for all cards that are enabled, but do not use root of a drive, ie c: instead create a folder "Recorded TV" as example.

Save with the ok button, please then reopen and try and preview your channels, if they work leave preview running for 15+ minutes, just to make sure they are fine.

If you still then have a problem with preview, i'd be tempted to remove one of the TV cards and see if that makes a difference, i know people have this card working, just not sure about running 2 without issues.

Once you have stable tv, then enable epg etc in config.

You stated earlier that you are surprised ive not given up on this yet? Well i tried to! I tried the vista media centre software (but that cant work with DVB-S), i tried sageTV but couldnt get that working either (cant recall why now - maybe it was not able to run 2 cards at once?). But yeah - getting utterly sick of this. I must have sunk litlerally DAYS of my time into trying to get this thing working properly. It just seems so pedantically fragile!

I feel your pain. You're doing all right so far.

OK - so its a nice sunny warm spring friday evening and I sit down on the couch with my bleutooth keybard on my lap to start uninstalling and reinstalling SQL, and i turn the monitor (LCDTV) on and whatddya know - bl00dy media portal is working fine! So ive left the TV server running a preview window of one channel (that worked straight away) - and we will see how it goes over the next few hours. If thats stable, ill try and make the MP client crash.

Demons i tell you - demons in my computer....

Glad you didn't uninstall SQL server yet. It was a password problem which I had you correct.
The Tv server was hanged after you entered the new SQL password. All you needed to do was reboot again for it to work.

    Cheers!

Thats the thing - i DID reboot after re-setting the SQL password LOL! I still dont understand how re-setting the SQL password can help though?

Also about the channel grouping thing - i didnt really understand your suggestions a few posts ago. From the screen dumps in the word doc that i attached does it look like I have it set up correctly?

The "sa" password is known to cause problems with SQL server.

If you are not planning to use more than one tuner, you don't need to worry about Tv groups for now.
But if you are curious, please read my attached document. :)
