MP not starting up (1 Viewer)

Hi team.

Today MP and MP Config will not start at all. It is set to auto run on startup, but this does not happen. Clicking on the desktop icons or start menu also does not work.Won't even show the splash/loading screen.

Log attached. I upgraded to v1.8 in the hope that would fix it, but no success.

Hi Brett,

What version were you running prior to the update?
Can you (re)install:

I upgraded from 1.6 to 1.8. The problem occurred while in 1.6. I thought the upgrade might help, but the problem still exists. I have also tried repairing .NET, then uninstalling .NET and reinstalling, but same problem.

I think the log4net config file (or one of the other config files) might be corrupted.

Please check the size of the config files in the MediaPortal install directory (typically c:\Program Files (x86)\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal). You should also be able to open them in any text editor (notepad, wordpad etc.).

Mine are all the same size as your config files. Mine are attached. Is it as simple as copying new config files to the directory, or am I looking at a fresh install?

Stick with your files - they look fine to me.

Could you please check the log4net.config file in c:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal as well. Note that's a hidden folder. You may need to copy + paste the path into the Windows Explorer address bar to get there.

Hmm... i never noticed this config file is in the root folder also (feels weird to have 2 identical files)...

Maybe it's your MediaPortal.xml that got corrupted (i've seen that in the past).
In your C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal folder, remove the MediaPortal.xml & MediaPortal.bak files (cut/paste them to another folder) and then try to start MediaPortal.

I should have looked at the file contents in the log zip.
File size looks okay, but the contents is totally borked...
