So can you install Mplayer from this link of website, after in the config.txt change the path of mencoder by the menceoder.exe included in the mplayer installation folder.

Same results. Crashes mencoder.

I tested an older version of mencoder that I've used successfully before for mpeg->xvid conversions, and it didn't give me a windows error, but rather mencoder itself spat out an error message:

I don't think mencoder can read dvr-ms files properly. ffmpeg seems to work great though. Why not just stick with that instead of trying to support both?

yup same here, using ffmpeg instead, see how that fares.

Update: ffmpeg working great although status of 609%was a little disconcerting, is there any way to change the destination of the output file, I keep my recordings on a separate drive and would like them to transcoded to my movie drive. If not no biggie.

Many thanks for this, I have been using MP now for about 18 months, and the ability to compress recordings from within the program is one that I have been waiting for. The built in compression never worked for my setup.

Found I had to use the -vtag xvid argument to make the file viewable, the Fourcc code of FMP4 not recognized by my system.

Thanks a lot at all for your help.

Currently , i work to transform my patch in plugin (more easier to use with svn version and release).

New feature in the plugin:

1. Setup wizard to configure the encoding settings (finish the config.txt) from the MP configuration tool
2. Possibility to encode different source (TV recorded, My Videos, DVD, CD)
3. Scheduling different transoding
4. suppress the command prompt window ;-)

PS: I think supported mencoder, but if some people complains i will see...

Bye
Fabrice

Fabrice, sounds great. I can't wait for the new version, you don't know how long I've been wanting to be able to transcode my tv shows within MP. Thanks so much for all your work, I really appreciate it. Keep us updated!

This will be an awesome addition to MP. DVR-MS files can eat your disk space fast!

Yeah thanks for all your work. this is something i've been wanting for ages.

Will it support transcoding mpg files that i have ripped from dvd to xvid? Would it be possible to specify a size to compress them to? say i wanted to compress a 6 gig film down to may be 2 gig?

Thanks again, Dubstar
