    Hi there,

Probably because MP is not the only process used for displaying content

DWM.EXE (Desktop Windows Manager) is also used (and just as important), so by increeasing MePo, you might be affecting this? *just a guess*

If I set MP to High CPU priority I get lots of dropped frames and fairly choppy playback. With it set to above normal it's about 98% silky smooth. Is there any reason for this?

Yes - you've changed the balance of the process and thread priorities both within MP and relative to the other system processes - there are good reasons why the default process priority of MP and TV server is 'normal'....

Take a look at About Processes and Threads (Windows) and Process Lasso FAQ if you're interested ;)

What is the current version of this dll? It should be added to the first post :(

I added v0078 to the first post over the weekend - it's now been tested enough to gain 'first post' status

    Hi Tony,
I follow this thread with great curiousity and I'm currently trying version v0080, which seems to be a really good version.
But perhaps you can give me a hint, where to post my wishes or in this case that issue.
It concerns the streaming behaviour of Mediaportal: When I stream a channel everything begins fine, until a channel gets scrambled for 1-5sec e.g., Mediaportal hangs completely.
Streaming with Ipimp continues streaming, altough there had been a scrambled part, also xmbc is able enabled streaming immediately.
I don't know if it's a tsreader or dshowhelper issue. It's not tvserver related, it's just the way the ts-file is read.
    Thanks in advance!

I'd guess it's a tsreader issue, but you ought to attach some logs ??

(....for anyone else reading this, v0080 is available on the SVN server, but its a work-in-progress (not released) version with some mods requested by another dev team member - use at your own risk ;) )

Ok, I'll post some logs later in the evening and then we put it into the appropriate thread.
I only know, that this issue is reproducable on any system I know ;)

    Thanks for the info.

Any tips on locking down the remaining 2% of instability? Would more RAM or a SSD hard drive help much? I really would like to have 100% solid playback, even with all the hurdles involved...

I'm running W7 64, a BE-2350 @ 2Ghz with 2Gb of ram and an Ati 5670 512Mb. About the only thing running in the background that really screws up playback is Sabnzbd which I do my best to shutdown when I'm not using it.

    Hi all,

I have been struggling to get MP working smoothly for a week or so now and I think I have finally found the solution/problem. The main problem seems to stem from the fact that I use a dual screen setup. I am using an ATI 6850, monitor 1 is a 1080p projector and monitor 2 is a small LCD. Most of the time the LCD is primary with MP running in windowed mode. When I want to watch movie/tv/video I use EventGhost to switch MP to the projector, make the projector primary, and switch MP to fullscreen. When finished playing I use EventGhost to switch MP back to windowed mode, move it to the LCD and make the LCD primary again.

I am using MP1.1.3, dshowhelper v78 part DWM (haven't tried anyother), Catalyst 11.4, no reclock, and 1:1 refresh rates (my projector can display 23.976/24/25/59.97 accurately and I use the refresh rate changer to call ATI catalyst control centre to switch profiles. The LCD runs at 75Hz. MP starts in windowed mode.

Now to get to the crux of the problem: If I start MP on the LCD I can never get smooth playback on the projector. If I start MP on the projector then I get smooth playback regardless of how many times I switch MP between the LCD & projector. I will call this scenario 1 & scenario 2 to make it easier.

The interesting thing in scenario 1 - Shift+1 shows that there are very few dropped frames, however there are lots of downard spikes in the red line (about 2/sec) and the output judders all over the place, other lines are pretty smooth. In scenario 2 all lines are smooth with a few ripples and no judder.

I know there is a problem with the monitor detection in directshowhelper (0002951: dshowhelper.dll uses first monitor to calculate freqs instead of the active one - MediaPortal Bugtracker) but I was under the impression that newer versions did not use this information.

Now - I know the next thing you will ask for is screenshots & logs. Fair enough - I will get some when I know how... Do I need to do any special config to get the evr.log? Is there a shortcut key for taking a screenshot within MP or just windows print screen?

Thanks for your hard work guys - looking forward to seeing your thoughts on this ;)

    Cheers
    Cameron

FYI, 270.51 nVidia drivers have definitely decreased my drops with 1080i content (HDTV)... As I told you some posts ago, I had 1 framedrop every 1000 frames played with 1080i (50fps)... Now, the framedrop rate is about 1 every 2000 (or even way less in some of my tests)... I asume it has something to do with hardware deinterlacing done by the card, which maybe has been improved with latests drivers (as I have never had this framedrop problem with progressive content)... What do you think?

    Hi Owlsroost,

Which version dshowhelper is in MP 1.2.0 beta?
