ok was talking about powerdvd9. This one works better than microsoft on my ION.

yes, the one from an old powerdvd9 demo...

Seems I may be suffering from stuterring relating to EVR as well, to the extent that many movies (1080P mkv's) just exist whilst playing, usually only a couple of minutes into the movie after stuttering constantly.

a) Is it merely a case of replacing the existing dshowhelper.dll in the following directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal
b) Does the old DLL need to be unregistered first and the new one registered or anything?
c) Do I need to do anything with the .patch file as well? Or is that merely the source code.

Sorry, couldn't find any instructions relating to this.

Thanks for the reply Tony. I have since tried all the dll's with varying results but none of them fully cured the stuttering. I am now unsure whether this is an EVR issue or not. Hence, I have documented my findings in this thread. It reads as follows:

I am experiencing a high level of stutter (not tearing) when playing a majority (but not all!) of my movies. Some even refuse to commence playing. I do not have any of these problems when playing in MPC-HC or when played on an older installation of MP on Windows XP (VMR9).

Thinking this may be a Windows 7 EVR issue, I tried all the dshowhelper.dll's, however despite varying levels of stuttering, a large number of movies still either stuttered and/or refused to play at all.

Perfect Video
MPEG2 TV and Recorded TV
MPEG2 (ISO) DVD
x264 (MKV) and DivX (AVI) TV Series Episodes
A small handful of x264 (MKV) Movies

Stuttering Video or Refusing To Play
Most x264 (MKV) Movies

Any ideas what could be causing this? Why would some movies (together with every other media aspect of MP) play smoothly and others not ?

Any idea?

i have at most 2-3 frame drops within 2 hours.

my system:

win 7 64bit
evr
an old matroska splitter form 2007 (the seeking of the latest builds is a real pain in the a.. ^^)
ffdshow (dxva) latest build
reclock latest build
ac3filter latest build
and dshowhelper_owlsroost_v0037_and_patch.zip
nothing more.
(... and a smooth working 64 channel ambilight)

All the mkv-, avi-, ts- and m2ts-files playing just fine.

settings:
win aero off, ati driver vsync off, reclock vsync off
29.97 speed up to 30fps and switching TV to 60Hz
23.98 speed up to 25fps and switching TV to 50Hz
uninstalled the tv server
TV 100Hz Motion Interpolation: max. (i love it)
the Tv is attached as the secondary display via HDMI
Firefox closed^^

perhaps reclock is fixing the Hz so theres no tearing..but i need aero on and vsync on my nvidia is "controlled by 3d application" by default..i dont use reclock at all

I thought it wasn't possible to change refresh rate of the secondary display (unless you're also changing the primary displays' refresh rate). See Mantis 0002951: dshowhelper.dll uses first monitor to calculate freqs instead of the active one - MediaPortal Bugtracker
