I am another (almost) new user with a problem. About 18 months ago I managed to instal client and server of MP2 on my 32bit PC in Windows 7 Home Premium with a view to replacing WMC. For a few reasons, I wanted to restart the process and make a fresh installation. I uninstalled the old version (2.4 I think) and then tried to find a fresh download. What I got was a 64 bit version without any choices offered which obviously threw up an error when I tried to instal it. I even tried installing MP1 for x86 but this failed reporting that I did not have authority to instal even though I am the administrator on my PC.
Does anyone know where I can download the installation package for MP2 which will work on my 32 bit x86 system? I shall be most grateful!

I just found some new info on this. I have a cloned back up disk from a month ago and MP2 v.2.4.1 is still installed and working on it. Perhaps is it possible to copy just the relevant files and folders from the cloned back up disk to my live disk to get the result? However, still curious why I cannot now find a 32 bit installation package.

Before deciding to continue using MP2, you should probably read this thread regarding the current status of the MP2 project.

As far as I can see, there is no longer a 32-bit version of MP2. If you still have the 2.4.1 installer for the 32-bit version, you should run that to re-install MP2. If you don't have the installer, copying the files from your backup may work, but I have my doubts. If that does not work, you will need to install 64-bit Windows in order to install the 64-bit version of MP2.

If you don't want to install 64-bit Windows, I can report that I installed 32-bit MP1 on 32-bit Windows 7 just a few days ago, with complete success. (Admittedly it was an upgrade install, but a first-time install should be equally successful.) MP1 is still being actively developed and supported.

Hello CyberSimian. I am really grateful for your taking the trouble to reply in such detail and for the link to the explanation about the differences between MP1 and MP2. In my naivety, I just assumed that MP2 would be "better".
Just before I created my recent problems, I did install MP2 client on my 64 bit laptop and get it to work over my home network with the server on my Home PC. If I revert to MP1 as the server, will I then need to uninstall MP2 and replace it with MP1 on my laptop for them to communicate?
Final question, if I may. I travel quite a lot, and am hoping to use my laptop overseas to connect over the internet to the server at home to avoid all the geoblocking problems we normally get. I see there is an add on called MPExtended which looks as if it will solve this problem. Does this work with MP1, how do I find the source for it and instructions on where and how to instal it?
    Thanks again

Yes, to use an MP1 server you must uninstall the MP2 client. The client and server must use the same version of the product (MP1 or MP2), and usually use the same release of the product (e.g. both using the 1.37 release of MP1). It is occasionally possible to use different client and server releases, depending on what changed. But if different releases work together, that is accidental, not intentional.

I think that MPExtended is in fact an MP1 plugin, so it would not work with MP2. Unfortunately, it is a plugin which I have never used, and I don't know whether it can be used to do what you want. This page in the MP Wiki describes this plugin and (hopefully) contains enough information for you to be able to set up and use the plugin successfully.

If you use a VPN connection to your home network, you should be able to use the MP client to connect to your server natively instead of using MPExtended.
