If it's about trying MP2 first to decide, if you can switch, the much easier way is to install MP2 in parallel to MP1, while stopping the TV-service of MP1.
Once you wish to continue with MP1, you just can uninstall MP2 and activate MP1 TV service again. TV settings from MP1 can be exported and imported in MP2 again within the TV-Setup.

I have not followed the manual yet, as I do not use MP1, but the failure that a password is asked for SQLite occurs usually, if the connection is not possible.
Root cause can be a wrong setting or in parallel running TV-Server of MP1. I believe even with a manual it's not easy and only for experienced hardcore users.

This is very important, when you have both MP1 and MP2 installed on the same computer.
When you want to run MP2 TV you must stop the MP1 TV server service first
When you have stopped the MP1 TV server restart the MP2 server service.
    Run the MP2 TV configuration.
you will need to Stop the TV Service under task manager before Starting MP2.
With that, MP2 will work for TV

    thanks @ge2301 !!
I stopped all services for MP1 and installed MP2. From what I've read, this is fine to do since they are two completely different applications.
I never had to go into this config for MP1 to setup the TV service. What I really with I could do is point to the existing TVe3 that MP1 uses, since they're basically the same. This would save a lot of time. I've lost about three hours trying to figure this out and am just about to scrap the whole idea of using MP2.

    Thanks @breese
So, I just did a complete un/reinstall. Even stopped the tvservice before installing MP2. I'm not getting the gentle.config error, but it gives me this error after about 10 seconds.

Are there more than one, by chance? Or, could MPextended be causing it?
I have no doubt that I stopped the tvservice in the mgmt console. Here is a snapshot of both, sbs

Is it possible that you are running into this issue?
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/index.php?posts/1154965
MP2 tv config starts the MP1 TV service.
I ran across that post earlier. Maybe I should disable everything for both...I'm baffled. i just stopped both mpextended services and tried it again to no avail.
I think I'm just gonna scrap it. I upgraded to the latest release of MP1 about a month ago and it force quits from T2T. Thought i'd make the leap, but maybe it's not as stable and easily setup as I thought.
    thanks for the help

Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. On the client, within media portal configuration, under TV settings, advanced options, I switched to UNC paths instead of the default RSS, and it's working very well. Sure I had to figure out the paths, but no big deal. Maybe helpful for someone in the future. Thanks for the...
