Why don't my FLAC audio files play clearly in the MP2? (1 Viewer)

Hi, Help Please.

I've got several FLAC audio files that play OK on my PC, and my HTPC, via:
Media Player / Windows Media Player / VLC Media Player etc.

But when I play them via the AUDIO folder in my HTPC MP2, I it sounds muffled and thumping.
I’ve found info online for checking the codec's etc, but it seems to be for MP1, which doesn’t seem to be accessible in MP2.
I've also searched here in MP2 but cant find anything here ether.

MP2 has not been in development for nearly two years, since the release of version 2.5. Furthermore, not a single developer from the MP2 team has been active during that time.

That is the current reality. MP1 is currently the only version under active development, and it is quite active (as much as possible).

PS: Things might change tomorrow, but for now, that's how it is.

So why do you think that is the case?
Does MP1 & MP2 have different people working on them, and it's possibly because the MP2 people have lost interest?
Or: That some or all of the same people, work on both, and for some reason they have prioritised MP1 ?
If the latter, why would that be the case.

I do feel that as a MP2 user,
the creators don’t seem to interested in their users, but perhaps I am completely wrong.

With regard to my current MP2 problem:
Is this problem solvable ? Are there set-up pages that I can use/check to make sure everything is set-up correctly for FLAC audio. If so, can you point me to them.

So what should be my way forward:
I see you are part of one of the development groups, so any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: When I first decided to install MP2:
I read the online info, but I couldn't see why I should choose one version over the other, so I chose MP2 because it appeared to be the latest version. (Like choosing W11 over W10)
But as we all know, the latest version, is not always the best version, or the preferred version.

So what is the main difference between MP1 & MP2
And if I switched to MP1, what features would I loose, or gain?

Yes, that is the case. Some years ago the situation arose where members of the team had different ideas about how the product should progress, and as a result the team split into two, rather like the split that resulted in the creation of OpenOffice and LibreOffice.

For whatever reason, the MP2 developers one by one decided to retire (or take an indefinite sabbatical), and now there is no one left.

So what is the main difference between MP1 & MP2

MP2 supports:

• A central database on the server (start watching a recording in one room; stop playback; go to a different room and resume watching there).
• Picture in picture for TV.
• A skin that closely matches Windows Media Center.

MP1 does not support any of the above, but has the significant advantage that it is still being enhanced and problems fixed (albeit at a slower rate compared to the early years).

Yes, as it happened historically, part of the team decided to work on MP2 and not participate in the development of MP1. I’m not interested in MP2 (in terms of both functionality and appearance), so I joined the MP1 team.

I don't know; I don't use MP2. I tried it twice just to check it out, but in my opinion, it's way too complicated and clunky. But that's just my personal opinion as a user.

MP1 and MP2 have always run in parallel, striving to make as much progress as possible. As a result, both versions are essentially the W11, differing only slightly in terms of specifications and appearance.

MPSync Plugin - Trakt - They let you do this in much the same way as MP2; thanks to these plugins, I can pause a video in the living room and resume it in the bedroom or kitchen using Kodi. But I agree, it’s not as flexible or convenient, and you’ll need to do some reading and configuration.

A skin that closely matches Windows Media Center.

In my opinion, this is more of a drawback than an advantage.

It’s hard to say—there won’t be any switching between users, and there won’t be a centralized database, strictly speaking. But this can be resolved, albeit with some limitations (though not significant ones). And this is only important if you have more than one MediaPortal installation in your home. If you only have one, then on the contrary, everything will be simpler and easier. And in my opinion, it looks nicer, but I could be wrong—after 20 years of using MP1, I’ve gotten used to it

PS: But maybe the MP2 team will be back tomorrow, and development and bug fixes will continue. Time will tell.
