Just wanted to throw my 2 cents into the idea pool here.

If someone is using a PPC device for this via either WiFi or BT, wouldn't it be easier to simply create a server side remote which could be accessed via a Web Browser? (Like the Web browser plugin, except designed to be viewed from a portable device). This would also enable anyone with a Palm device to control MP as well.

Am I missing the reason for a client side program?

There's another project for that. https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/viewtopic.php?p=80621#80621

Although promising in its own repects, mpblue is working much better for feedback and local browsing of databases (which is what I am mainly looking for).

I originally was using the webamp plugin for winamp, which worked exactly like you indicated, however I am hoping to have MP act that way, and I think this plugin will do that and much more.

A web interface isn't a bad idea, and someone with the knowhow could probably take the front end MrSensitive has built and have it run from a web browser instead of a self executed program. Right now I'm happy having a working solution, and looking forward to the remaining features/fixes.

Khris,

that has crossed my mind, but i decided against it for several reason (most of wich i forgot..)

but I want this remote application to send events to girder or any other automation tool too, remote power on of the HTPC, if MP is not running , start it etc..

In my specific case, I want to control the volume on my receiver instead of on my soundcard.
I want the TV to turn on , the drapes to close, the receiver set to the correct surround setting when I press play on a movie...
when I press pause, the light should come on...

I can keep on typing here, dammit, looks like I got a lot of work to do...

plus, it is hard to make website that can give you real time now playing information.

Looks like you're really ambitious about this controller, I like that. I currently have pocketvnc, Xronox total input commander, mpblue, media control, and webamp (via pocket explorer) on my pocketpc. Oh, also have orb and winamp shoutcast for streaming audio (and video with orb). It would be awesome to eliminate all these and have one controller do it all for me.

Oh, and my Ipaq has the Nevo IR controller (which works amazingly well) for ir device control. But again, jumping from app to app and eating precious memory to control everything.

What I'm seeing here is potentially an all-out two-direction (sends signals and receives feedback or data) controller that would run from media portal, or do you intend to give it a stand alone server for working with other programs? I see installing my x10 serial controller (on my todo list now that it is integrated) and a uirt controller or mytv blaster and having the server computer control everything controllable in my house (ir, rf, x10, bluetooth or wifi) through a series of ir extenders and x10 or similar devices.

Ok, let's just cool off for a minute, don't want to have to call the French maid back...

Ok, getting way too ahead. Big question, can you use the touchpad as a mouse control? As much as I hate to resort to the mouse, sometimes it is necessary. Also, keyboard functions are essential for stuff like searches and for the web browser (as well as a way to jump into text entry screens)

Ok, enough, must get back to work, but food for thought.

Fair enough! :) That's the information I was missing, and needed to understand why a PPC front end was preferable! :)

Thanks

Zeta,

to add an index on the song table do the following:

go to http://sqlitebrowser.sourceforge.net/ and download the latest version of SQLiteBrowser
After installing this, launch it (obviously..)
and open your musicdatabase (it might be wise to make a backup first)

goto Edit => Create Index

enter a name (IX_Song_idArtist might be a good name)
Enter the following values
Table to index: song
Field to index: idArtist
Indexing order: doesn't matter
Duplicate Values: not sure about this one, Allowed is the safest

this should speed up the searches..

good luck

Now to me this really is exciting, a very ambitious project indeed! I've closely followed developments elsewhere in MP in relation to X10 devices etc. and if this plugin can somehow begin to deal with that aspect as well it would be stunning. The main things are being able to turn the HTPC system on, start MP & then play with the various settings. For me however the main benefit will be the ability to be on the road (as I am often with work) & from any wifi spot access my home htpc and schedule a recording etc.

Awesome! I indexed the songs, MP works fine, loading all artists is less than 15 seconds, loading sub branches is instantaneous! You are the man!

Now, if we could jest get MP to implement this. If I rescan the database, will I need to index again? A minor inconvenience, but a definite plus.

What would it take to be able to lists the songs as trees under branches (aka, albums) or tp get a page showing the songs loaded? I have a bunch of album mistypes that I need to fix, and it appears many of my various artist albums show up as multiple albums, yet more id3 editting!!!

Also, here's another very very very minute detail, can you associate an icon with the client program? I use a cool free plugin called launcher on my pda which lists icons for programs I want on my today screen, and without an icon I get the basic white box with blue line. Your chance to state your icon. Try launcher if you haven't, http://www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/cestuff.html

It's been a while. Very good job MrSensitive!

I tested the latest version on my PPC2003 and it worked very well (I assumbe that only MyMusic button should work by now.). And GUI looks very promising. As this starts to fly, hope to see more programmers here too helping you out.

thanks!

ps. even changed the ip -address of my htpc :)

to load the songs, I would need to write a new interface, and adapt the treeview handling, not really difficult, but a bit of work..
it's on the developmentlist..

icon should not be a problem..

Oh, I just implementes queuing, but I ave some issues when I queue a song in MP and then one on the pocketPC, some incompatibility apparently.

the playlist not showing when you select an album to play:
it looks like MP is doing the same, when you select a song in MP and play it, nothing appears in the playlist screen.
I think I can adapt this (so that MPblue does populate the playlist in MP..)
