I am running into the very same thing with Windows XP. I was using the program to update lyrics on a number of files. I tried in vain to work with a filter (can't figure out how to get that actually to run) and the program suddenly lost its capability to scan and show files.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program three times. I just cannot get any files to show at all. I double click on a directory to try to get it to scan. A slight hint of a dialogue box shows for just an instant and nothing else happens.

I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the .net runtime (3.5 SP1) to no avail.

I really love this program and would like to get up and running with it again.

Does anyone have any ideas, please?

Thank you ever so much.

Can both of you please post a log?

i'm currently on a business trip until Friday and will have a look at it when i return.
Don't have any dev machine with me, so i really can't do any debugging at this moment.

Please let me know whether you need anything else.

Thanks a lot for responding back so quickly.

I just found the post on posting logs. One problem. The program would not install a program group in the start menu. I've looked around the program's directory and do not know how to implement the special debugging mode that would have been present with the icons. If you would please give me some idea as to how to make this happen manually I will gladly undertake this for you.

    Thanks a lot.

Perhaps the attached file will work a bit better in helping you to track things down. Thanks a lot.

Copy the complete program folder to e.g. C:\Temp\MPTagThat and starting the program with the " /portable " switch please by running it from a command prompt inside the new folder.

it'll create a folder named "log" there. please post the log file you found inside this folder

Please find the proper log file attached.

I double checked the path of the music directory. It is correct. There are actually over 8000 files in that directory. The log file shows the program as finding zero files there.

Something appears to be preventing the program from recognizing media files.

Good luck and thanks a lot for your help.

    That's really weird.
maybe we have still a filter in place.

Please get rid of the config files.
Simply delete the folder: C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\MPTagThat\Config\

Followed your recommendations. Found and deleted the directory and no change after restart. There is no filter showing present in the GUI, either. There never was.

I was originally thinking a filter problem as well; that is what I was doing at the time when the program stopped running properly. I have reinstalled it three times since then.

If I click on any directory that I know contains music files, the program simply will not start scanning for media files at all. A slight hint of a dialogue box comes up (disappears too quickly to make it out) and that's all the action it takes. In the status screen at the bottom (below the playback controls) it shows one file being present with none selected.

Could this be a problem between your program and Microsoft .Net runtime?

Whenever I write into tech support, it is always a "dandy" problem.

    Any further thoughts?

Thanks a lot for your head scratching.
