I'm with infinite.loop - amp is unlikely to help. Spend the money and get a pro in. I'm one of those users who spent weeks trying to sort out issues that could have been sorted relatively quickly by an experienced professional with the right tools...

Haven't been able to log on all day to read your posts. However, I got a local professional to come in an test my signal this morning.

He said all my channels bar one were okay. But the one that wasn't was borderline - He didn't specify whether it was bad/good or strong/weak. Just said it was borderline, meaning it wouldn't take much in the way of bad weather or other factors for it to drop.

He said quickest/easiest way would be to get an amp mounted at the antenna, as the problem could be cause in a heap of different ways/places in my house which could take ages to trace.

Is this a cop out and he's looking for a quick easy buck? Should I get another opinion?

It's the only antenna outlet in the house, and my house is only five years old.

By the way, how is this poor signal strength and ts reader problem related to the .dll fault that came up? Does it utilise that .dll?

Just by way of an update. I've bought an antenna amp and it appears to have solved my problems. All working properly.

Thanks to the development team for taking the time to look into my problem, given you're working flat out on the new MP atm.

I'm sorry it was just a signal problem - if i'd known that I wouldn't have bothered you guys. It was just the .dll problem that threw me.

Thanks again. Hope this thread has somehow helped someone else, given I did see a couple of other threads with the same .dll problem, and those users were having dramas with tv server.

Yes, that is a good way. The only alternative would be a bigger antenna.
The error many ppl make is to install the amp after the antenna socket/outlet, while it does belong as close as possible to the source (antenna) like your technitian said correctly.

Actually, bad signal/signal loss can crash the TvServer. This usually does not have an impact on the client.
But stream corruption as result of a "bad" signal seems to have an bad impact on your client, leading to an crash in the frontend.

Signal strenght based issues are actually pretty common.​

Good that the issue is solved. Now it would be still nice to have that really corrupted sample TS file that can be used to crash MP so we can improve the error handling in MP. So, please turnoff the amplifier and make MP to crash

I got the impression from your earlier comments that you do some installation work. Do you have variable attenuator devices? It should be easy to simulate low strength signals. Of course this is not the same as low a low quality (high BER) signal, but if you get the strength near borderline for the tuner device and hardcode the lock condition in TV library then BER should start to increase as signal strength drops and we should be able to observe the TV Server's behaviour. Just a thought...

Yes, I have such here, these are mainly used to lower the signal strengh in case the antenna is close to the transmitter (you can fry your tuner easiely with a too high signal - so amp's have to be used wisely )

Problem for us is that stream corruption is not only down to a general low signal strenght. Bad weather is a good example where the signal strenght goes up and down (rain can even increase the signal strenght). Temporary stream corruptions are the result.
Besides the complete signal loss (crash issue), this is the other cause we need to handle somehow.

Best way would be a ts(buffer) file which was created while i.e. bad weather corrupted the stream.
Recreating the same with attenuators is not that easy. At least when I last tried I did not manage to get the desired result.
Ofc. I could simply move my sat dish a bit, but that is a bit of a problem since I am not the only one on that dish in our house.
