.... following on from thread about music artist thumb scraping

That might explain some things.... Did not notice this being added but was slightly confused about some artist thumbs recently

Are these thumbs from last.fm and how does it work? Will it replace existing thumbs?

Hi,

The thumbs are all high resolution thumbs from htbackdrops (artist thumbnails). It will replace existing thumbs if those exists (and of lower quality). You can enable/disable this feature in the FH configuration.

Think I may be adding a feature request for an option to only scrape thumbs for artists that do not have one already

Hi jameson_uk,

I will include two things in version 2.2.4 of fanart handler;
1. The option you requested - Do not replace existing thumbnails
2. Option for only replace existing thumbnails where existing thumbnail's height and with is smaller than 500x500.

Will be released this weekend (I hope).

Brilliant added an enhancement request on google code site. Off to check artist thumbs on htpc backdrops (and think about the implications of having 1080x1080 artist thumbs.... perhaps it would be wise for performance to scale these down a little, or give the option of a max res and resize appropriately)

Wow I am loving this... did not see that HTPC backdrops had added 1:1 artist thumbs which is great I was going to do something with music plugin for this but your plugin works amazingly well.

Also had a thought that would make this the best thing in the whole of MP would be that if no thumb is available on HTPC backdrops that we could attempt to scape an artist thumb from last.fm. (artist.getImages Web Service or artist.getInfo Web Service)

I would not use this code as it is based on the old v1 API which is a little messy and the new API is far simpler and easier to use. There is no authentication or anything and it looks pretty similar to the HTPC backdrops API (except the XML that comes back returns a URL to the image rather than an ID and then downloading via a second API call.

Well I was looking at this and think we should probably add this functionality to MP itself but this is not going to happen until at least 1.3 so a third party plugin is going to be best place for this currently
