I have my mp3 setup in the follwoing way

artist\album\track name

Problem i have is when I browse my music collection though media portal the images only show up when I get the ablum half of the folder is there anyway to get an image to appear at the artist stage rather than just get default folder image.

Just in case this makes any difference all my mp3 are stored on my server.

regards,

adrian

You have to scan your music collection to create all covers - even if you only intend to use the shares view.

I should have made it clear. I have an album cover for everyone of my albums stored in the same folder as the album, they do not always using same naming format but always in JPG. I already have another jukebox program silverjuke which use all of these very well it's only media port which does not seem to use them.

We're not silverjuke. If you want to see all album art you have to make sure that MP's thumbs\folder dir is populated.

thanks how do they have to be put in the thumb folder I assume they are not all left in the root as

    A) I might have duplicates.
    B) how does it know which belongs to which.

    Thanks.

pc_pal68 thanks for the update I have looked at your thread still not sure how the system links which image to which album, artist or song. I mostly use a separate product for music playing as neither media portal or mce have great music systems unless all you are after is playing a whole album. That said it would still be nice to use media portal properly rather than as a glorified replacement for the normal windows frontend.

Hmm.. I found this strange. The SQL database within MP makes it a very sofisticated and powerfull player/organizer. I am curious to know what excatly do you do with other players that can't be done with MP.

Hi Locka, if you have a folder.jpg in each folder, then that is what you should see as album art in shares view.

They have to be named folder.jpg.

My setup is exactly the same directory structure as you. Just doing a "scan of your collection to create album art" seems to do the following:
    - create art for each album (album level folders) based on art embedded in the mp3 file, or art stored in folder.jpg. I think folder.jpg overrides art in the mp3 file.
    - create art for each artist (artist level folders) based on folder.jpg for each artist.

So if you view by shares, then you see whatever you have specified.

You can also use the setting to get MP to create missing artist album art when you scan your collection - it basically makes an image from the underlying albums. I personally don't like the way it looks, but it's a lot better than empty folders.

Now, if you're going to use the database to browse your music collection then that is different again. The database art is again created by scanning your directory structure, I am not quite sure of the exact relations to get all art to work - but it is similar to the above.

And Locka, if you're looking for things like playlists, etc, MP can import them, or you can sort by some other method (and create your own sorting rules) to play more than just what is in one album. You're only playing one album at a time because that is all that is in the folder that you're in when you tell it to play. Because you're viewing by shares.

Thanks Guys for you input, I will look into all of them. So be sides all my art work jpg needing be renamed something I'm not keen on, do they need to get moved to a folder under media portal, which I'm also not keen on as this only means another set of duplicate images.

Before I start I'm not here to shout how crap media portal is far from it's a great product, just that for some of the music things I do it's best left to a designated product. The program I currently use is well laid out and allows me to search easily for tracks, switch between purely a cover view and album view. It allows me to set the system up to a kiosk mode which locks the machine, I use this all the time for party's it allows people to search and queue music with ease with out them being able to do anything else with the PC and you don't need a computer degree to be taught how to use it; It also allows me stop people from being able play the same tune off repeatedly . Updates my collection of over 11,000 songs and counting in around 9 minutes via my network. The product is designed primarily as jukebox system which can be installed into pubs and clubs so it supports lots of features I don't use. It's not perfict but it's the best I have found!

PS I have looked at a few.
