did a scan and it seems to have got most of the songs wrong

hello i managed to do a scan today of some extra files i got from a friend
anyway it started but looks liek it has not exactly got many of them right
could you advise

Ok, another issue. I used the random feature. I pressed the skip button on my MCE remote to go to the next video. It didn't do anything. Pause, Play, Stop, RW, and FF all work fine. Is this a mvids issue or a remote issue?

I've never seen anything like that before. I'm going to actually need to see your Configuration.log to see what's happening. The console is just kind of there so you know it's doing something, it doesn't show anything really informative.

I'm not sure. I want to say it's a remote issue, but I don't use an MCE remote so I can't be sure. The skip, pause, play, etc, is all handled by MediaPortal. mVids just adds the videos to the playlist and starts it. If you click the "Playlist" button, do you see a bunch of videos? Also, does the skip button work when you're playing music?

Thanks... that does help. I'm gonna play with the MCE replacement plugin some more and see if I can get it to function.

This is a bug in the scanning system and should be fixed in the next version. The only workaround right now is to have ALL of your videos named properly (artist-title).

ok does this mean i need to take out the spaces between the artist - title

so instead of artist - title
it is artist-title
cause most of my songs asre set as artist - title
and renamed them that way as i think you typed artist - title in a earlier post
but can rename all of them in seconds and see what happens
well seemed to work to a point look below
it had done about 20 songs right

No, the spaces are fine. Let me explain a little better what's actually happening. For example, in your log you see this video attempted to be added:

2008-09-01 16:41:59.281250 [ERROR][11]: Music Video DB - updateDB encountered an error with file Z:\1111----MUSIC VIDEOS----1111\ destination unknown.avi error is System.IndexOutOfRangeException: Index was outside the bounds of the array.
at mVids.config.updateDB()

Now, since there is no hyphen in that filename it's adding "destination unknown.avi" to the list of Artists to add, but not adding a title to the list of Songs to add. That means that the list of artists will not match up exactly to the list of songs since the counts are off. This throws off the whole scan. What you have to make sure of right now is that every video has a hyphen separating the artist and the title. The spacing doesn't matter as long as the hyphen is there. This is a scenario that I somehow never thought of when I was writing the scanning routine.

Does that make sense?

ahh i see doing now
making sure a hypen in all then

"ah just noticed another small bug, now i know what to look for
if it has 2 hypens in its name it falls out of sync also
so have gone though all of the vid and found 66 by search pattern and now all named right with no double hypens in
will give you some feed back as soon as i have done another scan"

ok the above is wrong it is not the hypens with double ones in
have done another scan and there are 2 songs it caannot get right and offers me list but the artist not in there so i click skip
as soon as i do that it starts to go wrong from there
hope this helps iron out any thing that is amiss or give me a idea where is going wrong
