It would be nice to update AniDB, but then I would think you would run into people uploading false information...
Although, if a hash does not match the DB, whats the harm in uploading at least a possible match. The real problem would be if it was already assigned to an episode...

A bit off-topic, and this is more of a general post than directed at you bobtheamazing, but your post made a good springboard.

First - let me state in the strongest terms possible that AniDB does not want personal (re-)encodes added to the database. By their very nature, these have a user count of 'one', and offer nothing to the anime community except cranky moderators. My Anime 2's provision of associating unlisted files with episodes should be used in these cases.

However, files that are released publicly and have a strong chance to be used by others are welcome and encouraged. Bonus points for ensuring the metadata for the file is available by running Avdump on them as well. But they really need to offer something to others, not just the person adding the file.

PMs welcome if clarification is needed.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled support thread, with apologies to lwerndly and associates for the (mild!) derail.

I was certainly not insinuating that all personal re-encodes should be added. I don't re-encode anything. I just leave it to the pro's. And yet a good portion of my collection was not matched to the anidb. Possibly something had changed the files to cause the match to fail, but I even tried with the AOM tool, so it wasn't a my anime issue... I simply re-downloaded the series by an encoder that was detected, but it is at least annoying.

It would be neat to have some sort of holding area that could save associations with unknown hashes, and if enough people used the hash it would become added as a permanent association to that episode. If not within a certain time, it could roll off. That should eliminate the single-user (re-)encodes.

But perhaps that is too complex a solution. How does one even go about adding a hash to an episode right now? I searched on the site and what I found seemed like it just added it to my list...

Goodness, no, in no way was my previous post directed at you personally. Your's was just a convenient place for me to reply and appear at least somewhat on topic.

If I file is not found in MA2, it won't be found in AoM either (which isn't surprising, they match using the same hash, and share the same database. More or less.) As you suspect, something, somewhere, changed the in the file, which changed the resulting hash. I hate to even speculate.

From AniDB's perspective, the 'holding area' solution wouldn't fly. (Indeed, in many ways it would make the problem worse, since it would involve searching the same number of records over two tables instead of just one. This would not please the database deities.)

To add a new file (which is really what a hash represents), ensure you are logged in, and click the "add new file" icon on the far right of the episode list. There are other ways as well, but that's a good start. See here for even more details.

If you have other specific AniDB questions, by all means, PM me. I don't wish to derail the My Anime 2 thread more than I already have.

There is an option in the utilities window to "Remove records without a physical file"
if you delete files, you will need to run this after.

However it shouldn't lock up when a file doesn't exist. Mine doesn't do this, but I'll add some code to display an error message if you try.

Hi, first post. Thanks for the great plugin. Yesterday I installed for the first time myanime 2.3.0.14 on mediaportal rc1 the plugin is amazing, imported all my anime in a short amount of time. Today I tried the calendar and I accidentally moved to april, the calendar was blank and it freezed. Now every time I enter myanime if I try to exit from it mediaportal freezes on the basic home screen(black glass skin). Is there any way to fix this issue without rebuilding all the database? Any way to log the error and post the result? Thanks in advance.
