AW: My Films 5 - AMC Updater

I will perform the update launching AMCu with a external shortcut.
Is it still possible to launch AMCu in batch mode? what format should I use? I cant find anything in the wiki

Sorry to repeat, but I didn't get any answer to this
    Thanks

    Hi z3us,
If you want to launch AMCupdater directly in batch mode, you have to call the AMCupdater.exe with commandline parameter:

    e.g. AMCupdater.exe "<config-file>" "<log-directory>"

    iirc, log directory is optional.

But this will do an IMPORT - as it has always done in the past. There is currently no "UPDATE" mode available in batch mode - that would have to be implemented to be available.

    What's the difference?

    Hi z3us,

"import" will check your movie directory for missing movies and add them to your catalog (and remove no more existing, if configured to do so).
"update" will update existing catalog entries with information - e.g. update mediainfos, all or part of internet info etc.
With the new options "only update missing" and "only update if new value not empty" you could also "fill holes" in your existing catalog - even by using a different scraper.

I recently used the update to get better actor infos to my existing catalog - so I only selected "actors" and "only update if new value not empty" - resulting in getting ma catalog updated with new information, but not replacing old information, if there is no new information available (e.g. if you formerly have put info manually in a field, that is not available on internet DBs)

I think we should add some sample use cases to wiki to make that clear - it's imho very powerful and flexible, as you can combine it with the rules on manual update tab to be only applied to certain records with conditions.
However, this still needs proper testing ... not sure, if anyone else except me yet used it ;-)

    Other use cases could be:
    - You want to update picture with other scraper
    - You want to update rating (as rating might be old in your catalog) with original scraper
    - You want to update mediainfo, as latest mediainfo.dll better supports your movies, than it did in the past when you initially added films
    - You want to update actors to include roles, which you initially did not select (or vice versa)
    - You want to update missing data in certain fields
    - ... etc.

However, you should be aware, that the scraper has to identify the movie - thus I added a "silent mode" similar ti the interactive tab ("don't ask if no match") - that way you can run it without being asked, if a movie cannot be identified.

Then, if a movie can NOT be autoidentified, it will just not be updated.
In consequence, it very much depends on your DB and the selected scraper, if that works nicely or not.

Best case would be, if you e.g. use some IMDB scraper and have the IMDB Id in your URL - and update with an IMDB script: In this case, it should automatically identify all movies. (so this might be one thing to do once - updating that field, so for future updates you have that available for matching....).

In general, there is two possibilities:

    1.) Modified grabber script:
MF scripts allow to define "subpages" - and if it is possible to match a subpage from another internet DB, this could be included in the script definition, thus loading some data from mail page, some data from other page. See IMDB-OFDB as example - it gets the main stuff from IMDB page and retrieves the corresponding OFDB page to grab some info from there. using the mapping, you even can define a "fallback", so if there is no data on other website, use the one from current.
Advantage of such a solution is, that movie matching is only required once.

2.) Do a separate run with another script:
Here, a new matching has to be done - and if yutomatching is possible depends on the website and the catalog - see my former post.
However, this currently can ONLY be done in AMCupdater via "update Tab". It is currently not possible, to launch an update from inside the MF GUI. (It would require changes in the interface between MF and AMCupdater).
Just to mention: you can update single movies in MF GUI via context menu - just the "batch update" is not available...

    Where are those options?

... options are on manual update tab when selecting "update record"

Im looking for the best way to update only covers using alpacine grabber from inside GUI to get spanish covers. I dont know how to perform it
    Here's how I do it:
    1. context menu > Get Internet film Info (selected film)
    2. Select the grabber for covers (i.e. alpacine)
    3. In Update Properties Dialog just select the Picture
    4. Confirm if I want to replace existing cover with the new one from alpacine
That doesn't do what you want?

EDIT: Of course that is in MF GUI not AMC Updater.
