    I have fixed it in the source. The Folder.jpg will now be changed to hidden after it is created. The source file was uploaded to the SourceForge tracker. Now we just need to hold thumbs that one of the devs can look at it and commit to SVN if they agree.

    Good job. I tried out MP2 and found that it does not create the folder.jpg file, instead it creates a .db file. So if it's not fixed in MP1 then I know it'll be fixed come the release of MP2.

    Well, actually it was not that good a job. Although I tested it, and it worked, rtv was kind enough to look at it and found some inconsistencies with it. He did not mention any detail, so I can't try and fix it. My guess is that there might be some rare scenario that will not work.

    Anyway - he promised to put in on his todo list for later when he got more time.

    Like others, I don't want these files created at all! MP has become a thumbnail generation factory. The music app creates 10's of thousands of the little blighters. Auto-creating these files in EVERY pictures folder that then appear when you're viewing pictures/slideshows is madness. I'm using v0.2.3.0 which I guess predates this half-house fix (please at least add an option to the thumbnails config page to NOT create these/ANY thumbnails period!)

    The music app used to generate 10,000's of them! but fortunately there are now options to turn this off, photos needs one also. I guess I'll have to try and make mediaportal run under a different user account and restrict that account to read-only access for the photos folder.

    OK took a little bit of working out but here's a fix that works

    1) ensure secondary logon service is running
    2) create a new user called mediaportal (or something else if you prefer), making them a member of the administrator group (if required)
    3) goto your photos top level folder & do properties|security|add a new permission for user mediaportal and tick deny write
    4) create a batch file with this line in (adjust user/path if req)
    runas /savecred /user:mediaportal "c:\program files\mediaportal\mediaportal.exe"
    5) run it and enter the password for user mediaportal
    6) next time you run it it won't ask for the password again, so you can add a shortcut to the batch file in startup if you want it to run as this user on boot.

    So now MP runs as this new user who has been DENIED permission to go creating files in places I don't want it to. If I catch it doing any other funny business anywhere else I'll deny it write access there as well. I tested it, solves the problem, bit of a sledgehammer but the nut has cracked.

    @rekeenar,

    seems the bug is back in the Final Release.

    While watching pictures the Cover of the playing Music is shown.

    Hi ItsMe57 :)

    Just to be clear, this thread was about the folder.jpg thumbnail that was not created as a hidden file. Totally different issue than music cover. This bug is not back on my installation. Do you experience the "folder.jpg bug" or "cover of playing music" or "both"?
