DefaultWide has default image in references.xml

This is understandable. But I would like instead of an empty rectangle to display a thematic picture depending on the sport.

I don't have thematic pictures by sports.
But you could set any picture you want in this black rectangle by setting texture tag

for missing ones, maybe can be used the images available at "league/competition" level. An example for F1 can be find here at the end of the page (4 fanart images in total):
