Should I implement an automatic file organizer to move and rename files?

there's some series that have such wacky episode numbering/season numbering schemes it's gonna to be next to impossible to get the auto importer to work. would it be possible to have a manually import button? you could hit manual import, then select a file, manually enter the series name, do a search on this, then pick from a list of found series names, then choose a series and episode from the info found online?

this might save a bit of work in the long run - given that the importer system will currently correctly detect about 99% of files, instead of worrying too much about the last 1% just let the user fix those manually?

EqualRightsForWerewolves - This sounds like an excellent idea! I hope it gets implemented.

    manual search string

Is there a way to have the importer ignore words like "the" "an", etc. I am having trouble with importing these kinds of TV series. For example, I have X-files named "X-Files, The". When it tries to import, it cannot find that show so it skips it. I have unchecked the do not ask for series name, so I thought that it would ask me what to do there, but it just went ahead. When I had it checked, it would have a popup and show me shows that it thought matched the search, but none of those were the correct series and I couldn't do a manual search.

Can this be fixed or is there a workaround?

    Thanks,

    Jesse

hmmm, this is weird, the standard naming schemes does not work anymore?
    path: \\wintermute\e\series\how i met your mother\how.i.met.your.mother.s01e01.hdtv.xvid-fqm.avi

This is standard naming conventions right? and it did work almost flawlessly just before weetoddid went AWOL :)

any suggestions besides the obvious that I really oughta learn regular expressions.. :)

most common mistake I make (or : there is) :

On the Parser Expression page "Use simple expression" ist ticked. TRy regular expression. By default, simple expression is used.

    Worth a try.

Hi salty, yet another feature request!

I expect it'll be at the bottom of a long list, but I wanted to mention it anyway.

I've got some stuff in DVD format- i.e. Video_ts\video_ts.ifo format. Therefore my numbering is at directory-level. My problem is that MyTVSeries doesn't recognise that the directory is the last entry and drills down until it finds files. Namely .ifo and .vob. This has two effects:
    1. Each episode is doubled up (one entry for the ifo, one for the vob)
    2. Each entry in the episode column is seen as <episode>\Video.ts\<filename>

    My directory scheme is
    <series>\Season 1\03. <episode>\Video_ts\<files>
    and the simple exp is
    <series>\Season <season>\<episode>. <title>\

Am I missing a trick with the simple\regexp? If not, is directory-level naming ever likely to be implemented?

    Cheers,

    John

Edit: Actually scratch that, I've managed to get it to work although it's a cludge- I renamed one of the IFOs (in every directory) and changed the simple exp to finish with \vi and somehow it worked. Would still be useful to have it take the folder name as the episode name and number.

Importantly however, something I noticed (I had 1 'dummy' episode per season) was that when it couldn't find a match it took about 3 minutes before it displayed the 'please select' dialog. Is this normal or just me?

follow up on the above post - if i manually edit the database, and change the 'special' field to 'unknown', i no longer get the crash.

I also am experiencing this error. How did you manually edit the database?

in the mediaportal\docs folder, there's a little utility in there that lets you edit the mp databases. use that to open the tvseries database (located in mediaportal\databases), then on the 'browse data' tab, select the 'episode' table. scroll down till you find your offending episodes, then change the 'special' column on those (double click on it) to read 'unknown'. then save the database and you should be right!
