Hello everyone!

Need some help configuring mp, not sure if I'm doing something wrong???
currrently running my htpc through my av receiver using the optical out on the pc to passthrough and let the receiver do the decoding of the soround sound but, I noticed that with MCE2005 the sound passes through and the soround sound works perfect but on media portal it seems that the pc is still doing the decoding and I am getting sound coming from the soround speakers but it dosen't sound as good and not all the sounds in the movies come through?

One way I found out that sound isn't passing through correctly in media portal is when I have the program running in MCE2005 if I lower the volume all the way down it dosen't affect the sound at all but when I do the same in MP the sound actually dose go down letting me know that the sound isn't really passing through the pc.

Not sure if I have the wrong codecs but I've tried everyone you can think of ( I think ). tried to follow the tutorial but was a little confusing. I love the freedome and options you have on media portal, and I belive it's a better program for my home theater but right now I'm currently using mce due to mp not processing the sound correctly and I'm really picky about the sound and image of a movie. Maybe I'm just not using the correct codecs or have mp configured correctly. please help, I will try to work on it a little more but allmost ready to throw in the towel and stay with mce even though I hate the gui screen.

I work in the IT field and build pc for customers on the side, I would love to recomend mp to my customers but I cant untill I know that I can run mp's sound correctly.

Is there an easier tutorial ( for dummies )I can follow on wich codecs to use for audio and video? please help I want to stick to media portal but can't at this momment due to the sound processing.

    Have you tried AC3 filter?

I use this and have set it up to use SPDIF for all formats at 32bit PCM with 5.1 speakers. (you will understand what I mean when you go to configure it).

Then you just need to setup MP to point to it in the audio codecs.

One thing I found was as other threads suggest is setup the outputs as the Direct sound Default as the output in control panel/sound.

this is freeware stuff and I think it is good..I feed into my Kenwood AV receiver and it auto detects the different formats (DTS,DD,MPEG)

    Thanks charli181 for your help,

yes I do have ac3 filter installed but not configured that way I belive. When I get home I will try youre suggestion, just wondering? Do you have your sound passing through the pc directly to your Kenwood? since youre using SPDIF I would think you are but just checking.
