I am trying to setup HDHomeRun. I have installed the latest drivers for it and configured it. (it works fine with Vista MCE.)

I have SQL Server 2005 installed.

I have followed the instructions here http://www.silicondust.com/wiki/hdhomerun/instructions/mediaportal about adding HDHomeRun information to the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml (even though I am not sure it is needed for Engine 0.3.)

Now, when I try to test the setting up of a database in SQL Server, I get an error saying connection failed with user sa, since the user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

I also get errors like "database cannot be upgraded, do you want to re-create it?" If I say yes, after a while I get "failed to create database."

At the end, I get a TV Server Management Console with nothing listed under TV Servers:-(

Here are the server settings:

hostname: USERS\SQLEXPRESS
service: MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS
login: sa
password: sa

Are these correct (including password and login - I didn't create them, so I assume they are defaults?)

How do I set this up?

Thanks for any help.

P.S. When I go to MP Configuration, I don't see any tuners under Televion/Capture Cards either.

Take a look at ::this thread:: = You will notice the need for a new drive from the manufacturer. Plus I believe that on the SiliconDust forum that whurlston said that they have some steps to go through. I think whurlston is the man for answers, but like you said, others also have got it working.

I had to uninstall and re-install sql server, accrding to the wiki instructions, after which the HDHomeRun was found and a bunch of QAM channels were added by the scan.

The problem was, I would get get black screen on all channels, and could hear sound on one. Switching codecs didn't help. The same channels work great in Vista MCE.

I also tried to turn on the zip2it plugin, but it did not download any info, just broke the server connection (cannot connect to database error.)

So, I gave up:-( HDHomeRun does work with Engine 0.2 (although I haven't managed to get the TVGuide to work yet.)

    P.S.

BTW, what is the main benefit of using TV Server Engine 0.3 over MyTV Engine 0.2?

    HDHomeRun with TVServer 0.3

I'm also trying to get a HDHomeRun box connected to digital cable working with TVServer. MyTv Engine works/worked just fine, but no joy with TVServer.

This is with the latest 11-12 SVN builds of both TVServer and Media Portal using Vista and MySQL. TVServer finds the two tuners and lists them as ATSC Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner XXXXXXXX-0 and -1, but finds no channels when scanning.

I have no idea whether I am supposed to check the "ATSC card supports QAM" box or which of the QAM tuning frequencies I am to pick. I've tried all combos, I think, and it just runs through and says "no signal" or "nothing found".

In MyTV, there are no QAM choices, you just hit scan and it finds everything. Since the QAM is being remapped through the BDA drivers, I get a bit confused as to whether MediaPortal really needs to know that QAM exists when it comes to the HDHomeRun since its just passing MPEG2 data.

Here's a sample from the log file where there appears to be a channel found, but it comes away empty handed.

    Any help would be appreciated.

One thing I have been noticing is that Mediaportal, since RC3, seems to have been removing the custom entries for the HDHomerun device from the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file. I could add them in, run configuration and verify the tuner, but then run MP and try to tune a channel and it would fail. I would then close MP, open the XML file, and find my entries had vanished. Something seems to be up lately. Setting the file Read-only to prevent the removal of the entries didn't seem to help all that much. Sure, I can now pick an HD channel from the Guide and have it go to a black screen, rather than getting an error pop-up, but it still won't tune anything on the HDHomerun device now. Bizarre. I've verified I have the newest software for the device and the most up-to-date entries in the XML file. I'm going to keep digging and will post anything I might find.

It looks like the error I see in my logs when trying to tune a channel is:
    2007-11-18 08:21:05.919250 [ERROR][13]: DVBGraphBDA:CreateGraph() FAILED capture filter not found

I have installed the latest driver from Silicondust and TVServer sees both tuners. Playing with the codecs gets it working (no more black screen.)

The main issue I have now is, that a good number of channels just don't work when in MP.

Changing channels in MP is kind of slow, but more importantly, it goes through a number of channels without tuning them in, so you are stuck looking at the last channel it was able to tune in, while flipping through the next one, and the next one, and the next one, without any of the desired channels actually showing up.

The same channels can be tuned in just fine through the HDHomeRun's software and play happily in VLC, which HDHomeRun uses:-(

Finally, why couldn't someone just import the necessary info relating to HDHomeRun into the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file, so we don't have to keep re-entering it every time we update?
