need some help with my second HTPC build (1 Viewer)

hi guys,

this is just a small update.
i made my mind up about the parts i will use.

this is my final list:

slim bluray drive
silverstone NT07-775 low profile CPU cooler
INTEL core 2 duo E7400 CPU
kingston hyperX 2GB DDR2-800 KHX6400D2/2G
samsung HM201JJ 200GB
INTEL DG45FC mini ITX MB
ext. PSU + int. DC/DC converter 150W(picoPSU-150-XT DC/DC)


now i have to wait a week or 2 for my parts to arrive.....that will be a long 2 weeks.
meanwhile i can start drawing out the dimensions for my design and when everything arrived i can start assembling.

meanwhile i'm still searching for the height dimensions of the MB (anyone?)

hi guys,

i made a quick, simple layout of how it should look like.
you kinda have to use your imagination.

it's a little diffirent than the first design i had in mind.
first i wanted to make it a little more curved. but that was'nt going to be easy to build as i don't have all the neccesary tools and equipment. and it would also have been to thick.

this design will be 7cm deep (without wall brackets).
with wall brackets it will be aprox. 9 cm.
don't you think that's a bit to deep to hang on the wall?
i can also put it on a pedestal.
there is no layout yet of the backside but that will be basically all perforated plate.
should i build this? or should a build a more conventional design?
a conventional design is easyer to put it next the other equipment in the cabinet.
i actually don't really have the place to hang it on the wall wtf:) but i still like this, as it is more a design feature. and the only thing you see is a display on the front panel.
i can also replace that frontplate with a plexi (the kind they use to cover VFD and LCD panels).
then you don't see the VFD except when it is in use, and then i can alos try to add some moodlights behind the plexi.


please let me know what you think of this design (before i start building).
don't hesitate to give any comments , tips or advice.

Looks OK as far as I can tell from the plans - I assume it has good ventilation top and bottom ?

the top, bottom and the whole backside will be all perforated alu plate.
the only fan in this case is the one for the CPU. i hope it will sufficient.

Have you ever considered to use this mini-ITX mobo? ZOTAC - It's time to play - Products. Here is a brief review: Move Over G45: Nvidia's GeForce 9300 Arrives : Introduction - Review Tom's Hardware
It is an Nvidia GF9300 chipset, it really outperforms any Intel chipset, included G45.
In Italy you can find Zotac Mobo at about 125€ (Intel DG45FC costs 98€)

i've been looking into those ZOTAC MB. they look very promising.
unfortunately they are not available around here.
i paid €129 for the DG45FC MB.
i wish i could find this around here, ora good supplier like newegg but then in europe or preferrably in Belgium.

Montecristo, I've got a DG45FC Mobo in my "silent" THPC.
The mobo sits in a micro HTX box (passive cooling)

Watch out: the DB45FC motherboard makes a squeeky sound. When I'm sitting in my little lab, without speakers on (when I'm doing experiments at night, whe n there are no cars on the road and the kids are asleep), the squeeky noise is audible.
