I have an issue playing files that end in .IMG .ISO and .AVI.

This is what I have, I have one PC setup as an HTPC (EeeBox livening room) I have mapped the Movie Folder to another PC on the same LAN (In the Basement). When I launch the MediaPortal application from the EeeBox (Livening room) I can see the contents of the Dir of the other Server that I have mapped to. When I go to launch a movie nothing happens, this is for files ending in .ISO, .IMG and .AVI (I know the following files work as I have tried them on the Server with MediaPortal and all works fine).

I can play a movie that has this Dir of (Video_TS). As most you are aware; this is simply .vob files in that Dir.

I think it might me a CODEC issue but not cretin. As a note I have added .ISO, .IMG and .AVI to the Extensions CyberLink H.264/AVC Decoder in the MediaPortal Configuration Tool.

One thing I did notice in the Configuration - Under Movie \ Movie Player - the H.264 Video Decoder is empty on the EeeBox, but the server were the files play with no issue has the following player being used under H.264 Video Decoder - CyberLink H.264/AVC Decoder (PDVD7.x)

if the codec list box is empty, it usually means that a compatible codec is not installed on your machine. you will need to install one. Also, you may wan tto post your log files so people get determine what the actual problem is.

I will post the logs once I get home. I have another question, do I need to install DT tools? This is where I'm a bit confused. On the server I tested MediaPortal to work out any issues I may run into. At first I could not get any of the ISO, VOB's ect to work. Then I did some reading and found that DT tools may be my answer. I loaded this app and then I kept reading; I came across an article that told me to make sure the Extension were added to the Extension configuration. After doing both of these steps I could now view the ISO's and VOB files. Then I uninstalled DT tools and it still works, I'm now wondering if I should install DT tools on the HTPC system to see if it loaded something I might need to make this work. I don't think it's a Network share issue as I can watch a movie when its in a Video_TS folder and I can also listen to MP3's over the network.

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If you want to watch .iso files you have to install Daemon Tools.

Is this just for playing over a network? like I pointed out in my response to charli181 I had loaded it on the server then removed the DT tools and the ISO's still play? either way I will load it tonight.

For a follow up
Under Movie \ Movie Player - the H.264 Video Decoder was empty, I loaded ffdshow (ffdshow-rev2280_20081102_xxl.exe) now I have fddshow as the H.264 Video Decoder.

It would be recommended to install DTools onto each machine that is expected to open ISO's. maybe when you uninstalled the required drivers were left registered to view these or it is being used by something else (nero maybe?)

Please note that the MediaPortal Configuration.exe is for the local machine only (even in a server/client setup) and that in a server client setup, the only thing that is streamed across is the data, and that each client PC must have the required codecs and software installed to interpret the data being streamed.

Fixed the issue

This is an update to the issue I was having with playing ISO's, .IMG's and VOB's over the Local Area Network. At the first I thought it might be a Codec issue, loaded a few Codec's still could not play the files over the LAN. Then I moved to Daemon Tools as a solution, tried every possibility I could think of, still did not solve the issue. Then I copied files to the PC "not through a share" I should have done this before I tired any of the other steps. The file would not play. I went back and loaded the following Codec Package. "Download Codec Pack All in 1 6.0.3.0" from Free-Codecs.com :: Download Codec Pack All in 1 6.0.3.0 : Codec Pack All in 1 is a collection of codecs for playing DivX movies. This package allowed me to play the files locally and over the LAN.

**I did not think it was a Codec issues after the fact I could play a file that was in a Video_TS folder, so this is the reason for not copying any files locally to the Hard Drive. So I can't figure that out why it played that file type when its simply a Vob files in a Dir named Video_TS.**

Then I uninstalled MP and DT from the PC and rebooted. Reloaded MP and then set my shares to the server, and it still works. So in short Daemon Tools is not needed to play ISO's over a LAN or Locally. Hope this helps other users having the same issues.
