Got it and sent you reply plus email. 4Meg zip file. Note it appears that all the .wma files (three albums) are like this, don't have many music files on this computer so will try at home computers also.

Note the album art not showing also - probably due to the error halting the jpg from being read.

    Mike

The folder.jpg is ignored. Coverart image is shown only if the tag includes embedded artwork (in the music file).

    Hi knut,

Do your files contain embedded artwork? I've read as many as 5900 tags without mem issues on my laptop (with lots of open apps) and approx 60% contain embedded artwork so I'd be surprised if it's a memory issue.

It's a long shot but did you happen to note approx which file it happened on? If so, can you try scanning that folder only? Baring that; can you rescan and see if it happens at the same track?

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Always stops here at track 915 of 1169. No crash program keeps working can look at the information in the track already read in.

I've mp3 only and everything seems to work fin except the duration:
I convert my CDs into VBR MP3 files using Adobe Audition 1.5 (100% compliance to MP3 fromat)

The MP3tag software calculates the duration correctly:
    mp3tag.jpg

    Your test app in comparison:
    testapp.jpg

Using filesize and average bitrate the duration can be calculated exactly. Note that only few players/tagers do show the correct duration of VBR MP3 files.

It would be great if MP could do that as well...

    Hi Steve,

    here are my results:
    Umlauts - ok
    Scantime - 1:30 Each Drive contains ~ 4400 mp3
Totally scan tracks - 30669 then application hang
    wma-file - Error Tag reading
    ogg file - ok
CPU useage bout 90%, RAM useage for a drive with ~ 4400 files pikes at 710 MB while scanning
MPTagReaderTest.exe stays after closing the gui, using ~90% CPU load and 60856.

Some Album Artist are not read.

Does it eventually finish the scan (progress bar is replaced with summary text when finished)?

At this point it looks like a little loggin would go a long way. I'll add logging tonight and post a link to a new version.

    Thanks for testing.

We should be able to do this but it will slow the reading considerably. I'll have a look at this after I sort out some of the nasty bugs.

    Thanks.

That would be great! Maybe it can be used as an option that can be activated/deactiveted.
Not sure if it would slow down that much - mp3tag scans relatively fast through a dir with lots of mp3s and shows the correct time. (~1 sec for 700 VBR MP3s)
    Thanks a lot
