Hi guys,

I updated my system and started from scratch but this is probably my worst experience in installing/configuring MP.
The system seems ok but MP gives me a lot of woes.
Over the years I have collected multiple versions of drivers for myself and for a friend who's system I have installed so I was a little puzzled regarding the tv card.
It seems I have the right version for the tuner but still struggling with the remote - although this is a minor problem right now.

I've had lockups by opening the MP configuration, even the splashscreen remaining visible over the config screen.
In the meantime, I have reinstalled a few times and the last time I even removed everything - including sql + db. I reinstalled vga driver, directx did a clean MP download and let the setup process download/install the components.
Now, the system freezes on 'initializing DirectX' with almost default settings, no plugins but xmltv to have a guide to be able to test live tv and configured the folder locations.

The system is almost completely up-to-date with hotfixes, drivers are the latest ones and no additional software, ....

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Peter

The error in the logs is:

2012-01-10 01:36:38.588852 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: D3D: Exception: Generic application error. Enable debug output for detailed information.

The dxdiag output shows no video card details (!!!).

Basically I am guessing that there is a problem with the video card or its drivers. Which drivers are you using - drivers from Asus or drivers from NVidia?

Thank you for looking into it that fast since without a MP life is a lot less fun!
I downloaded the latest drivers from the nvidia website and I only installed it without any '3D' extra's.
For directx, I installed the version from June 2010.

Maybe try an older version from nvidia or what do you suggest?

June 2010 is correct. Did you install that manually? If so... as a developer I have to install a DirectX SDK as well as the DirectX redistributables. One of those - I can't remember which one - only unpacks the files to a folder. You have to then go to that folder and execute the setup.exe (or some exe, don't exactly remember the name) inside it, otherwise the package isn't actually installed.

Yes, would be worth a shot. I would also restart my PC after installing new drivers just to be safe.

DX: it was a redistributable SDK/runtime package, have downloaded it and stored but of course installed by running the setup.
EDIT: Is it normal it just reinstalls without an uninstall option? Seems to me like it has not been installed before and therefore it just installs - tried multiple times

Good question - I don't know. I usually install drivers first but it might not matter.

What happens if you try to run dxdiag yourself? Does it show any video card information?
