AW: Re: New Tool: episodescanner - adds series and episodenumbers to your MP or 4TR E

Dear Harlekin,

thank you very much for your quick response. It will take me some time to remember what steps I've already done and what might be a problem now, since my first try to install episodescanner lies a few weeks in the past. Unfourtunatly my job demands most of my time so it'll take some time for me to answer. But please feel free to pm me - I think you ve found your fellow ;)

I've got a problem which I think can be resolved with a %episode_stubstitutions but I'm not sure. I'm using thetvdb.com and I have a series being recorded that has 2 shows per episode. The title comes through as "show 1; show 2" and when thetvdb.com is searched fuzzy logic finds the correct information but in THIS case the tvdb.com has assigned an episode number to each show (which I think is technically incorrect). A look into the results will probably explain better:

    Serie: WordWorld
Episode: Duck Saves Spider's Web; Caterpillar Gets a Home
    search on http://www.thetvdb.com/ Language: en...
nearest fuzzy found: Name: Duck Saves Spider's Web Dist: 25 S2E3
NOTHING FOUND => WordWorld Duck Saves Spider's Web; Caterpillar Gets a Home
Episode: Race to the Spaceship; Sandbox Surprise
    search on http://www.thetvdb.com/ Language: en...
nearest fuzzy found: Name: Race to the Spaceship Dist: 18 S3E9
NOTHING FOUND => WordWorld Race to the Spaceship; Sandbox Surprise

If you look at thetvdb.com you'll find that "Duck Saves Spider's Web" is assigned to S2E3 and then "Caterpillar Gets a Home" is assigned to S2E4. Since the episodeis a 1/2 hour program I think both shows should be asigned the same episode number (which is what I find for other children's programs like this).

So is there a way to just go ahead and assign the first reference to this episode so it gets the S2E3 tag?

How do I get the latest version of Episodescanner?
And is there a change log available?

I checked the properties (right click) of my current episodescanner.exe and it reported the file version as 1.0.0.51
Today I downloaded episodescanner from the first post in this thread (even though it seems dated) and as expected the file version was older: 1.0.0.46

Dont remember where I got the later version from.

Hi , just need a bit off info on this tool cos im lost lol,but dont know if i benafit from using it here is my question, does this tool work with over the air epg where it gets the tv show epiisode name and scan the tvdb for the missing said season and episode number or does it need a tvguide.xml to be made from say the xmltvgui program and if it's the latter that program has a post processor that puts seasons and episode numbers in the tvguide xml it makes , so if i use this tool is it for over the air epg like i said bit lost with this info cos if it uses the tvguide.xml then this program is bit redundent cos xmltvgui puts all that into the xml sorry for the essay but just want it more clear in what type of epg data it needs a xml or over the air.

Let me explain what I am doing and maybe that will help. I am only using a TV Tuner card for ATSC signals. I installed the XMLTV add-in in MediaPortal and then I use MC2XML to grab the guide and place it into the tvguide.xml file. MP then grabs this tvguide.xml file and imports it into the databse so your EPG has information (how and when this happens I'm stll a little unclear on!). I created a service in windows that runs MC2XML every morning so the guide information is always updated.

Episodescanner looks at information in the MP database and then uses that information to go query www.thetvdb.com database and if it finds a match it then populates the season and episode number fields in the MP database. So far for me this seems to be working well for one scheduled recording (which BTW episodescanner just looks for shows that you have scheduled, it doesn't add season and episode numbers for everything, just shows you have scheduled.

I'm not familiar with xmltvgui so I'll have to look into it.

Right now I have a problem with episodescanner (ES for short) for one program because of how www.thetvdb.com stores information. I'm thinking of trying to add a feature to ES for programs that have 2 shows in 1 episode (common for kids programs). The moderators have decided that each individual show should havce an episode number even though the official show's site and other databases define an episode as when the program aired. Many of them will then be tagged at 201.1/201.2 or 201.A/201.B but over at thetvdb they number each show so it becomes 201 and 202 which then breaks the connection to the official site and other databases.

    Hi,

Is there a step by step guide available for episodescanner??, I've been trying to configure this for a few weeks without any success.
