    Hi
Things seemed to be going fine during my client setup, and then the tv guide data disappeared from the client TV plugin. All channels say no data available, and it also says that below the mini screen after ebtering the tv plugin.
I'm afraid I don't know what I have done to cause this, as it was working before, and fear it may be something really stupid but I haven't worked it out.

    Some info:
    windows firewall disabled on client.
the tv guide displays ok using a client setup on a laptop, and also on the server itself.
I can play tv channels when i select them even though it says no data in the tv guide.
Logs attached. If there is anything odd it might be because i ran the debug mode via RDP.
The system info below is the server. This client with the problem is Zotac AD10 with win7 ultimate, MP 1.2.1.

    Help!
    Cheers
    Ben

    Hi Ben

This is a pretty strange issue. On the one hand I'd have thought it could be a firewall issue, but you have the client firewall disabled. It could also have been a database security issue, but if that were the case I would have thought you wouldn't be able to tune channels either. Have you got server logs that I could look at?

    Hi
Thanks for taking a look. Yes, I thought it was odd so that's why I posted rather than doing a complete reinstall. I have just opened MP on the client and then on my laptop and watched a few seconds of BBC 1, closing the first before starting the other. Server log files are attached - I didn't know which ones so this is all the files that changed. Time-wise, 8.06 is the client in question and 8.09 is the laptop. Both running 1.2.1.0. Windows firewall still disabled on client. Client is using power over ethernet, laptop is wifi. Client can see the server shared drive in explorer but has a different password from the laptop and server. I have had troubles with homegroups over the last few days and as yet this is unresolved. This means I have deleted the homegroup that was on the server beforehand (ie when it was working). I think I should try changing the passwords to be the same to see what happens. At the moment I have shared the server 'pool' but not the system drive which is surely the right thing to do.

I also just tried connecting to the mysql db from the client using heidi sql. host = ip of server, username = root? Surely not. Not sure, unfamiliar with this. It doesn't work, which is because I don't know what to enter for user I think.
    Cheers
    Ben

Edit: password change didn't do it. It just feels like this is something to do with file sharing/windows rather than MP.

    Hi again Ben

I think the share and HG stuff is likely a dead end since the EPG comes from the database - has nothing at all to do with shares. Testing the DB connection with heidi is a good option though. User name is root for MySQL or sa for SQL Server. Default password is MediaPortal (case sensitive).

oops, wrong password, I had lowercase. the first google result for 'mediaportal mysql password' shows the lowercase version in the text below the search! Of course, straight below that in the post (if i had bothered to click the link) someone corrects it.

Anyway, that works. I can see mptvdb from the client. I hadn't tried to look before, but i can also see my recordings in the tv plugin, despite no tv guide data. i have double checked the laptop - and it is showing all of the data that is currently in tvguide.xml. xmltv plugin shows tvguide imported successfully this morning.

Make sure your time and year is correct on the client. Every once in a while my HTPC decides that the year is suddenly 2028 and the only way i notice is because the guide data dissapears :)
