No recorded tv thumbnails being made (1 Viewer)

Ok so I scheduled two recordings. 1 HD channel, 1 SD channel.
- Both have completed sucessfully and I still have no thumbs generated.
- I have hidden folders shown always, the \Thumbs\Tv\Recorded\ folder is empty.
- I already had the files above in the zip in the correct folder.
- I use MP TV server and both channels were DVB-S2.
- Both channels use a CAM to decode.
- My MePo config screen is exactly the same as Ray's.

Can't think what else is relevant, my system specs are upto date in my profile. I added that I used a CAM simply to be complete, from what I understand its taking an image from either the stream or the actual written file, in both cases I would expect that its all total unencrypted anyway..

Any idea why it wouldn't be taking them?

I really don't know where the problems come frombut I also have the issue that my last recording has no thumb. But mainly I get thumbs from recordings.
I don't know if its even possible to get thumbs from HD channels. Someone can confirm if its possible or not?

Yes, it's possible..

Some of my channels have thumbnails, some don't! I just checked and one of the ones that does is a HD encrypted channel.

Weird eh, and an awkward one to troubleshoot.

It's worse with the Avallonis skin, because it really makes it look a bit crap with no thumbnail!

Couldn't you do thumbs with e.g. VLC? Else you could make four screenshots within the recording and put them together with IrfanView or something.
For me its not worth the work because I do delete my recordings after they are watched one time.

We delete them too, it just makes the skin look a bit nicer though with the thumbnails.

And besides, bit odd that it does it for some recordings and not others...

I dont know whats the problem... maybe its the recorded file itself, or the channel.. etc. Just strange!

Well I have just tried manually creating thumbs with mtn.exe and I can confirm one of my SD recordings I can manually create thumbs OK. But in MePo this recording does NOT have a thumb.
I have tried with a HD image and mtn.exe is complaining it can't find key frames and then finally errors out..

So it would appear that at least some HD recordings have problems with mtn.exe. But there must be a failing of MePo somewhere for the SD channels to not be having thumbs generated. If I can do it manually.

Well, we could start by looking at logs, as we would for any other potential bug.

The only complication in this instance is that if the thumbnail fails, the file will be blacklisted so that no further attempt is made.

For me, I have thumbnails for 90%+ of my recordings, but a few do fail.

Here are my logs. I recorded 2 shows around 8/9/10am this morning. The first was an SD channel and the show was Star Gate Atlantis on Sky 1. The second was HD with the show Lie To Me on Sky 1 HD.

Neither shows have a thumb in MePo.
Neither shows have a thumb file in ProgramData\blahblah\thumbs\tv\recordings\
I DO have .jpgs in the folder the actual recordings are in, but these do not open and error as 'the file is empty'
I can sucessfully generate thumbs for Stargate Atlantis (the SD show) manually with command line prompt to mdn.exe
I can not generate thumbs for HD show with the error displayed above
