I think it could have been reinstalling my soundcard drivers that did it?

Chances are doing that gave a new hardware address, that can really screw up some setups, some of these driver cleaners are very necessary to get things right.

One I can recommend and used myself is Guru3D - Driver Sweeper, great piece of kit and FREE!!

I'm using MPA now and never get a problem. Perhaps there's something odd about the PDVD7 audio codec and playing ts.
