No TV after running TV once successfully, then standby/resume (2 Viewers)

Hi to all and the MediaPortal Team from sunny Western Australia.

Recently (happily) dumped Windows XP MCE after struggling with it for 12 months. So far (bar my current concern) MP looks like a wonderful product - staggered it's free !!!! - How does the team do this for no formal dollar return and manage to live normal lives ?

Anyway, my problem (and I hope I've posted in the correct place and in the correct manner) - Purchased new copy of XP Pro SP2. Absolutely clean install. All Windows Updates installed with exception of IE7 which I despise. Spent countless hours sorting out all my S3 issues (BIOS updates, +5VSB Enabled, Dumppo.exe, Registry Fixes etc, etc). Finally have all of that working well. S3 standby works fine from Windows Start Button or from my MCE Remote and PC can be brought out of standby with MCE Remote perfectly.

Issue is that I can go in and out of standby as many times as I like, then fire up MP and TV and it works fine. But as soon as I've run TV that one time, after that, if I go into standby, when I resume, starting TV produces the following error message:

Unable to start timeshifting
Unable to start graph

My impression is that the TV Server is not seeing the TV Cards, but all evidence is to the contrary. The cards show up in Device Manager fine and TV Server Configuration shows the cards in the list fine.

I have enabled PowerScheduler in both MP & TV Server. In TV Server I've enabled "Reinitialize Service on Wakeup ..."

I've poured through the forum for many hours now and I see that these sorts of issues seem to be the biggest headache for most users of this and other similar products. I'm not normally in the habit of posting to forums - I can usually nut stuff out for myself, although I'm not overly tech minded but this one has me beat :-(

I've done my best to complete the form indicating hardware/versions etc and I hope I've managed to upload all my log files using the various processes your team advertises. Here's hoping one of the team (or any other interested parties) can assist.

***Sigh*** I came so close to having this PC work just like a "Consumer Electronics" device - LOL

Does this setting have any effect, you also need to set delays in MP config for startup of mediaportal.

Are you running same MP svn as TVServer

Can you use the preview function in TVServer setup\channels.

Have you got restart mediaportal on suspend resume enabled under MP\general.

Thanks for the reply.

I did have a delay setup as you've suggested. Don't think I had as long as 20 seconds, may have been about 10 secs. I also tried a 10 second delay in MP Config for MediaPortal startup and ticked option 1 in the Startup Delay screen to "Wait until TVServer has started".

Yes, I had restart MediaPortal on resume enabled.

I didn't try the preview function in TVServer Setup\Channels (didn't know there was one) but I will do so and get back to you - although I did try starting TimeShifting from within the TVServer Setup and I received the same "Unable to start timeshifting/Graph" error as I did with TV in MediaPortal.

I will also re-check all of the above you have mentioned and make sure all are enabled at the same time. I'll also bump up the delays to 20 secs.

OK, I've had some more time to test. Here is the first of two test processes that I'll do. This one only uses the TV Server "Preview" function as you suggested. For the next test I will actually go into MP and try and fire up TV. I re-iterate that everything seems fine ie I can go into and out of S3/S4 as often as I like and the first time I try to view TV it works fine. But after I've viewed TV that one time - all the wheels fall off and it won't work again until I re-boot

General Settings/Application/Delay in seconds before TVServer detects cards=20

MP Setup:

3. Clear log files event logs etc using MP Test Tool

4. Cold Boot
5. Wait at least 1 minute (to allow for set delays)

7. Resume - wait 1 minute
8. Check that TV Service is started - It is

12. Start TVServer Management Console
13. Select TV Channels/Preview (on a known working channel) - Preview works fine

Hi SteveR,

I had a lot of problems a while ago with standby modes. After many sleepless nights I figured it had sometime to do with the TV-cards and which standby mode I was using.

Have you tried S1 standby instead of S3? For me this made a big difference since the TV-card is powered all the time with S1 (I believe). The most recent problem I had turned out to be a HW fault in the TV-card that only showed up after S3 and not S1.

If you haven't already it may be worth a try. At least it could help isolate the problem.

SteveR - I vaguely remember the setting 'reinitializing on wakeup' as causing problems with some TV cards.. I don't know if you've tried turning this setting off ..

As you say, trying S1 may help isolate the problem I guess - so I will give it a go. But I wouldn't go with S1 as a solution as I don't want all the system fans running.

Any luck with this? I also can't get my compro t100 to work after a resume form suspend or hibernate. Same error messages and everything.

Have you tried the above setting, ie 20 sec delay before detecting cards under TVServer\general settings + reinitialise card on resume in TVServer\powerscheduler settings.

Could just be the way the drivers react with certain motherboards, way out of our control, but will help as much as we can, MP wise.

See if any BIOS\Driver updates help.
