    The reason for the difference is vmr9 (directx9) against overlay used by most vendors for there software, a cheap FX5200 Graphics card (or higher) usually overcomes the problem.

    It also varies with which codec is used, a lot of people think the nvidia purevideo is the best, but like a lot of things it's down to personal components within a htpc that can cause great differences.

    Jerky picture could also be a frame-rate mismatch (NTSC 29fps versus PAL 25fps)

    Presuming you can configure your capture card via MP, the "TV standard" in your TV channel settings will set frame-rate to 25.

    Thanks guys,

    When I built the PC for my daughter, I used the old bits from my PC - ASUS a7n8x delux aith Athlon 2800. However I kept my old video card for the time being and bought a cheap 64MB Radeon 7000 64Mb card for this PC.

    Anyway, tried it tongiht and it looked fine, actually. may have found a stable combination. Thanks for the assistance.

    My MCE remote has just arrived from ebay so that will be the next challenge...
