Noobie Questions - IRSS Bugs/Issues (1 Viewer)

Hello All,

Here is my set up:

Vista Home Premium
MediaPortal 1.0
TVServer 1.0
Pentium 920D (dual core)
PQI 2gb DDR2 Memory
Asus P5WD2-Premium Motherboard
Western Digital PATA 120gb (OS/software)
Hitachi SATA 1tb (movies, storage)
Ati Radeon x1900xt via RGB out to TV
Hauppauge 1800

I have mediaportal running in conjunction with my set top box and the schedules direct plug in, which took me over a week of extreme frustration to get figured out! The only issue I have left is being able to view the TV guide, select a channel, and have my STB change to that channel. I am EXTREMELY confused on that last part, getting Mediaportal to change the channel on my set top box.

I use the Gyration 2.4GHz RF remote, which also does IR. I found the TV3 External Channel Changer plug in, but I dont know if that would work for me? It says if you are looking for documentation, to come to this forum, which is what I am doing. I am beyond lost here. What do I need to do, read, download, etc to get this last part of functionality working???




Did I buy the wrong remote? I really like this remote but if there isnt a true "blaster", just the remote has capability to do IR, then its kinda worthless for this setup isnt it?

I deleted your other post, since cross-posting/duplicating is against the forum rules.

Now to your question.
I do not know the details of your remote, but looking at something like the MS MCE which comes with the blaster eye, my setup is like this:
MCE blaster eye placed directly against STB
TV Server configured with IRSS
TV Server channels configured with STB channel numbers

Never missed a recording or channel change.

There are one or two users with problems, but it work for almost everyone else.

right, but the problem is that this is an RF remote, not an IR remote. There are no blasters, only the ability for the remote to also do IR. I paid a LOT for this remote, and I do like it. Its like an air mouse, you can move it around like a Nintendo Wii controller.

BTW - I have a Motorola STB. I found this plugin. Motorola Serial cable Tuner/, however I cannot find anything for documentation on it as far as which models it works with, and whether or not it would work with TVServer.


another edit: What if I purchased another Hauppauge1800, but this time got the one with the MCE kit (IR blaster included). Then I could still use my RF remote, and have the blaster control the STB, correct?

ok, i purchased the tuner card with the IR blaster, and downloaded and installed the IRSS. However, I cannot seem to get my STB to respond. I see the red light blink on my blaster, but the STB doesnt change channels. In the STB setup of the plugin, My STB isnt really listed. I have a motorola DCT-2224. In the quick setup, it lists a General Instruments DCT-2224, and a Motorola DCT-2244, but not my box.

I now have blasting working from inside teh TVServer config>plugins>TV3 Blaster via the test button. I can select any channel, click test, and my STB changes to that channel. Now, once I am inside MP, and use the guide, hitting OK on a channel on the guide doesnt "blast" the command to the settop box. Is this because I am using the Schedules Direct plug in?

What version of IRSS did you install?
Can you attach a screen shot or two to show us your channel setup and channel numbers in TVServer config?

I have Version 1.0.4.1. I even tried the SP1 patch, but it didnt make a difference. I'll try and get some SS's and post em up.

A few notes, maybe you are aware, maybe not.

Original IRSS v1.0.4.1 has a blasting problem. There is a fix in post #35 (I think) of the IRSS thread.

I have recently upgraded my system to IRSS 1.0.4.2 test version as available in the IRSS 1st post. No problems yet.

I know about at least one other user who is not able to get it blasting from within MP. He is also on Vista. I have no idea if the OS might be the problem or not. My knowledge about it, is not good enough. He was going to install XP to see if it helps. No feedback yet.

But as I said, maybe someone can pick up the cause when you post screenshots.

yeah, Andy (i think that is the developers name) posted that fix as SP1, which I was referring to above. It didnt make a difference. I guess I could try the test version to see if it helps. Before I post up the screenies.

To confirm, this plugin should work with the schedules direct plugin? When I am in the TV Guide, I can click "OK" on a channel, and this plugin should blast that channel to the STB?

I went to get the screenshots and now it just doesnt work? Last night it was working fine. I cant even "test", it just errors:

i completely uninstalled IRSS and reinstalled. It works again under "test" I can select a channel, and click the test button, and it will change the channel on my STB to the channel tested. When I fire up MP, go to the TV guide, select a channel, and hit OK, it doesnt blast that channel to my STB. No blink from the eye at all.
