Not downloading all episode info (1 Viewer)

I have just upgraded to RC! (with SVN 15497) and version 1.2 of the plugin.
Initially I had all sorts of problems actually getting the information on my series downloaded. This seems to have reresolved itself and was probably due to the server changes/mirrors.

However, now I have found that some episodes contain imcomplete information when compared to what's on the site at thetvdb.com

The main information that seems to be missing is episode overviews.
For example, I am missing overviews for Heroes season 1 episodes 10 and 11.
However, when checking the site, there are actually summaries listed there.

Is there an easy way missing info can be re-added, or any ideas as to why this may have happened?

If at all possible, I would prefer not to have to deleted and recreate the database as I have already spent some time resetting up which episodes I have watched, etc.

Thanks.

From configuration in the details tab, try deleting the episodes in question and do the Import again. See if it picks it up. Its better than deleting the entire DB.

    Thanks Damien.
I actually thought of that after I did the post and deleted one of the episodes that was missing some info.
I then did an import, and it still only picked up exactly what it had before - the overview of the episode was still missing.

I'm not entirely sure how many are affected, but it looks like I'll have to go through them all and see which ones are missing and manually add them in.

Not sure if I'm game to recreate the whole database again on the off chance it may work as I only have a 56K dial-up connection at home (the parents have cable as dad works from home :p ) so it takes a while (especially when all the banners had to be downloaded for 50+ series). Although I guess it (hopefully) wouldn't download all the graphics again.

Edit: I had a look through the episodes that I have watched, and found some curious patterns (or just really weird co-incidences).
Almost all of the episodes that are missing info are either episodes 9 10, or 11.
Also, if Season 1 of a show is missing info for episodes 9 & 10, then other seasons of the same show are almost always missing details in those episodes as well.
All that seems to get downloaded is the episode name. Overview and air date does not.
No idea if this is going to help sort out what a possible cause is. Maybe I'll just have to try clearing the database and reimporting everything and seeing if all the info comes down this time...

This is a bit of hack, but if you want to test deleting the entire database but not download everything again you can try the following:

    1. Backup your existing tvseries database file (from the database directory)
    2. Delete database
    3. Create a New Import Folder (Remove old one)
    4. Copy only 1 series, 1 season that you see the problem on into new import folder e.g. Heroes S1
    5. Run the Import again

If it fixes the issue great (you know there was a problem with your database), if not you can always roll back to your old database.

Have you also checked the log files after a delete and import to see if there is any indication of what the problem might be?

    Now even more confused...
Did as you suggested and deleted the database (after backing up). Copied Heroes to another folder and did an import and everything was fine.
Deleted the database again and this time added another couple of series into the temp folder (one of the series files are named differently to Heroes). The test parsing ran fine and the details appeared in the correct columns.
Did an import (there were about 230 episodes to get info for) and all that came down were the episode titles. No air date or overview for all episodes of all series.

Which log files should I be looking at? I've been watching the log window in the plugin as it goes through and there doesn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary there.

I have now done a complete reformat and reinstall of the OS and MediaPortal to RC1 with the same SVN.
Lugged the HTPC around to the cable connection and did an import (of about 1300 episodes). I initially though everything came down okay this time, but have now found that it hasn't. There are again scattered episodes throughout series that haven't downloaded air dates, overview, etc from the web.
I am using 'retrieve episode info for whole series'.
As before, if I deleted the series from the details tab (close the plugin and MP setup and then go back in) and then do an import again, it still misses exactly the same info before. Almost as if it remembers what was there previously (though I'm guessing this isn't the case).

I have also tried with the 'get info for whole series' unticked and same thing.

I have created a debug level log, but am unsure exactly what I am looking for.
Unless someone has any suggestions, guess I have no choice but to go through and manually enter the missing info :( Or perhaps go back to 0.2.2.0 stable with version 0.9.5 as it didn't happen there. But then I never imported all episodes either. Though from reading other threads it seems as though people recreate their db fairly regularly without issue.

I'm guessing that no one else has come across this issue otherwise there would be more reports of it...

I often delete my database and do full imports and never have seen this issue that you are describing...I will try do a delete and also enable the 'retrieve all ep info' option to see if I can find any that have missing info.

I had this problem once recently. Info for three seasons of House downloaded without overviews for each episode. I deleted the series from the database and tried again, and then it failed to update altogether. This time it seemed like I got to many hits when searching for house so the generated XML file grew too large. I manually hacked the database with the correct series ID for House and tried to update again and then it worked like a charm.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am rapidly getting to my wits end with this one... This was supposed to be an easy, straight forward upgrade of MP!
I've tried everything I can think of and nothing I've tried seems to manage to download all the info for everything I have.

When I looked through after the redownload of everything, a similar pattern to what I first reported happened again. That is, pretty much the same episode info would be missing from seasons of the same show.
Eg: overview and date aired info might be missing from episodes 11 & 12 from all seasons of a particular show.

I have started to manually go through the database and just manually add in the overview and date aired info where it is missing, but this is obviously very time consuming (I've gone through 1 page of 1000 entries out of 3).

Janbo, I'm not sure if that would fix what's happening to me as it is only a couple of episodes in a season that have missing info, not entire seasons. From looking in the database, the correct series id appears to be there for the shows. Which table did you hack? Are you talking about in the online_series (I think that's what it's called) table?

Damien, if it's not too much hassle that would be great if you could try it out and let me know. Even if you could provide some info on number of series, episodes, version of MP, etc you are using that might help??

Okay, looks as though I've had some luck by using the database from 0.2.2.0 stable and just updating it.
Banners don't show unless I tick the 'use random banner', but that seems to be due to it remembering all the old banner locations as well as where the new ones are. That shouldn't be too hard (or time consuming) to fix.

Would still be interested to know how your testing goes if you get the chance Damien as if I ever need to delete and redo the database, I'm going to potentially end up with the same issue.

Hey Whatisk, I just did a test with the following:

    Series: 25
    Seasons: 135
    Episodes: 2532

    MediaPortal: 0.2.3.0 RC1 (SVN 15507)
    TVSeries: 1.2.0.0 (Latest SVN: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/svn_versions-t22053.html)

All seems to be ok, my database size is just under 5MB.

Maybe try match the TVSeries version, it might work for you. Its Highly unlikely you need the svn of MP, just stick to the 0.2.3.0RC1 release unless you need to e.g. support for latest Spinsafe Resolve skin.
