My hard drive sometimes seems to have a bad cluster and this is logged on the events. But I've had this less than 5 times in a year, and SeaTools (low level fixing program) scans the surface of the disk, marks bad clusters and relocates them somewhere else. But still get the occasional freezing for a second or less . I hope the problem isn't the drive, but I undertand that with time-shift always enabled and two tuners, it's being stressed alot more than my "work" computer.
BTW, I use Norton Ghost 2003 on this cimputer and Ghost 9 on my main computer (when you buy version 9, you get a CD with version 2003 as well). But at work I use a program called Image for Windows which does the job quickly with no bells & whistles; add this program to a BartPE CD and you have all you need to do images or clone disks quickly in any computer that can boot from CD.
Interesting points on the HDD being a potential cause... I'll have to take a peek at the wee beasty and see if any glitches appear.
Just as a side not, this is coming from purely pre-recorded stuff of various sizes (mainly the dvd collection for the kids to watch - saves me having to swap disks). And if it's any benefit, a number have been encoded with XVid (just throwing that in there in case it helps someone).
I'll start giving the HDD a workout tonight and see if that might be the problem (hoping so as I can replace that easily
