thanks bud, got it all installed etc. though one small issue?? when i try to click on an apple trailer it just trys to run then stops. i looked into the config and played about but there doesn't seem to be an 'mplayer.exe' on my pc?? i installed 'My Mplayer.503.mpi' so where do i get the mplayer.exe from?

Hi Guys, first, I love this plugin very much, keep up the good work!!!

So, some people don't realy satisfyed with the youtube search funktion. I have written a small workaround, a real youtube search! The PHP script use the orginal youtube search and create a valid Yahoo mrss freed witch 100% works with the onlinevideo plugin. All what you need is webspace with PHP support.
Download the file here.

Now take a look at your OnlineVideoSites.xml file and the Youtube -> Search item chance to following:
http://yourwebspace.com/youtubeSearch.php?query={0}

Now you can test it, it will work until youtube take changes on the site stucture.
Have fun ...

Apple trailers

HI all,

I'll start to say thanks for the nice plugin.
I've triaed to get apple trailers to play without any luck.
Done everything as it says in the textfiles, external player etc ( i have quicktime pro installed ).
When trying to start a apple trailer screen blinks quickly and then notin happens.
ANyone know what kinda problem i might have ? cause i seem to have tried everything i can think of.

Uh, I think the author needs to address a couple of things about this plugin to make it a bit more friendly. I'm sure it's great when it's working, but I've only just now decided to read this thread and install the plugin - so I'm a "fresh" user (but not a noob).

I'm not going to read 52 pages to work out how this works so I've limited myself to the first post and downloaded version 0.30. I followed the README.txt and copied the files to the places specified.

I've started up the configuration program and gone into the config for this plugin.

I've looked at the names of all the fields and only entered "D:\Audio Video Media\Misc\Meedio\Library Exchange\Trailers\Apple Trailers\Trailers" for "Download Folder".

First problem - there's no "OK" button to save and close the window. Clicking "X" forgets the value I put in.
Next problem - clicking on any of the SAVE buttons crashes the program (probably because it's not valid to click Save without entering any values for Sites, site names, etc.

At that point, this plugin becomes too hard.

My point is that I think people have to be careful about creating plugins that meet their own particular needs but requires a pretty intense learning curve for most others to use it, or several hours of research and reading through 50 pages of troubleshooting in order to work out how to use it.

I know devs don't like writing user manuals, but if Media Portal ends up being 10% core application that's simple to install, but 90% plugins that are complex, it simply ends up being too difficult to bother with for 99.999% of the population. Seriously. 99.999%. I'm not joking. About 10 people in every million. Maybe 100 people in every million, but I doubt it.

Anyway, with 52 pages of support in this thread, I'm sure the author doesn't have time to do anything like I'm suggesting, so No Offence guy, just trying to provide insight into how a fresh user attempted to try out this thing and simply said, "too hard, not intuitive, confusing, buggy."

Dir, no offense maan, but if you're going to commit to building an open source media center you have to be able to roll with the punches...nothing works right the first time and generally takes some reading and manipulation to get it to work on all the possible different configurations. This bit about 'being careful' not to create plugins is nonsense. It's an open source project, not a commercial endeavour that needs to conquer the global userbase.

Try to remember that nobody paid the author to write this plugin. And I'm sure that the author didn't expect there to be 13 pages of responses on their plugin, but it's an exciting peice to Media Portal. Works fairly well for me and many others, so how about doing some reading or asking about a specific problem rather than complaining that it's not easy enough?
