I always use WD reds now for the last 2/3yrs as i have had too many seagate failures in the past, they may be better nowadays though.

I've been using WD Green for a long time now and never had any problem. IMHO the comparably little use within a private environment does not call for using certified server hardware. Of course it does not harm to buy more robust stuff.

I can recommend the WD Red’s. In my NAS I have two 3TB and two 4TB versions (plus 2x2TB very old Greens, which are still working well). I think WD has a very good support. I had once a 2TB version of Re (RAID Edition) and it get broken. I didn’t wanted again the Re edition, instead I wanted a 3TB Red HDD and the support agreed to replace my 2TB Re for a 3TB Red :)

I Vote for the WD Reds. Use the 3TB Versions in more than one NAS and they have no Problems.
Never had Seagate NAS Drives, can´t say how good or bad they are.

I would go with WD Green. Usually u would just store things on a NAS and let them be there.

WD Green produce less heat, less noise and consume less power.

By having less rpm you prolonge the life time of a disk.

But ofc if u need performance and not just storage space then go for Red.

WD Green produce less heat, less noise and consume less power.
    according to specifications
    green http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/SpecSheet/ENG/2879-800026.pdf
    red http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/SpecSheet/ENG/2879-800002.pdf
comparing 3GB models, REDs take same or less power and produce same or less noise, so your statements are just wrong.
But ofc if u need performance and not just storage space then go for Red.
there are also no difference in (sustained) data transfer speed.
