No, I didn't change anything manually... just installed the skin.. but now that I start to think of it (it was late...) there was an error message during install (installed via MPI) but I clicked it away a bit too fast...

I reinstalled it now to reproduce the error message, but I am not sure if it is the same error because this one complains about not being able to access a thumbs.db file. I checked the file and it does exist... why would the installer want to do anything with a .db file?

Try the .rar archive install method instead. Apparently, sometimes fonts aren't correctly installed. Also, are you on XP or Vista? Perhaps you don't have needed administrator rights (UAC)?

XP SP3 and I installed the fonts manually. But will try the rar install method.

    Hi zilexa,

What you see in the menu editor is not a bug and your installation is fine (I think). It is how the menu editor is built. The first time you open it you have to build the menu you like from the start. Then you can generate a new basichome and save your setting so you can continue edit some other time. I will see if I can add the default menu in next version so you do not have to recreate the menu on first use.

    cheers

OK thanks! For now I'll use the screenshot in the first post as example.

I have a problem. Been using the X-Factor skin for a while on my main HTPC (Windows 7).
Today I tried to install and use X-Factor on a XP machine. But MediaPortal will crash as soon as I start it with the X-Factor skin selected.
Also the menu editor will not save the settings. I click generate and save. But next time it's blank. Also if I copy a basichome.xml file that I know is working and open the menu editor it is still blank.

    I don't know if this can be a cause...but I'm using a centralised db.

I've tested 4-5 diffrent skins. All works. But as soon as X-Factor is selected MediaPortal can't start (hangs when it says "Startng plugins")

    Hi johan_80,

Please install the fonts.rar (http://x-factor.googlecode.com/files/fonts.rar) again and then restart the PC and see if this helps (that crasch). A log file would also help me to find the problem. About the saving in menu editor I haven't tried it in a central configuration. Where do your cache folder resides?

    best regards

The cache folder is local. Only the db folder is on a remote share.

After installing the fonts it does not hang. But I get this message:
    Missing or invalid file:C:\Program\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\Skin\XFactor\BasicHome.xml

But that file does exist....May be related to no being able to edit (everything is blank) the file in the Menu Editor

    problem with RSS Ticker

    hi all!

first, tnx a lot for this great skin. it looks very attractive and professional and it's one of the reasons why i upgraded my old long working mediaportal installation.
everything works 'as advertised' ;) except one thing. rss ticker plugin seems to be a trouble. after there is last news item shown in scroll line and when the ticker should start from beginning, it freezes mediaportal.
in mediaportal.log there is infinite loop of this error:

    Code:
2009-05-25 18:36:31.012774 [Info.][MPMain]: Exception :Error in the application.

i have latest mp installation (1.0.2) and tried two diff versions of RSS-ticker plugin, one from the link in first post of this thread, and latest one (which is newer) from official rss-ticker thread. the rss url i'm using is http://www.index.hr/najnovije/rss.ashx

i haven't changed original basichome.xml which comes with x-factor installation.

i noticed another thing also: scrolling of news in rss thicker is very jumpy. that means it isn't fluid like other horizontal scrolling elsewhere in mp.

    tia,
