Synopsis:: - Recording is incomplete and segmented

I scheduled a recording but when it completed, there were 3 separate video files, 2 around 64Kb long and one around 300Mb long. All files were segments of the same scheduled recording. The 64Kb files were blank and the 300Mb file contained the last half of the program.

I checked the vmr9.log file and found something strange. I don't know what it's trying to tell me but here goes:

There seems to be a problem with the entries containing "DVBGraphBDA:CreateGraph() FAILED capture filter not found". I think I'll try and reinstall the WinTV NOVA drivers and see if that cures it.

Hi - did you get any further with this? I get similar results. For example, if I schedule a recording to start at 7.30pm with an extra 3 minutes at start and end, I often get recordings like this:

7 (usually zero length) recordings from the program before my scheduled show.
Then the main show itself, started recording at 7.30, lasting for 33 minutes.

I have noticed that the recording indicator keeps going on/off until the show starts, and the problem is intermittent.

Any ideas?

Nope, I never figured it out. But since my EZ65 is purely for HTPC, it wasn't a problem for me to wipe the C drive and reinstall XP + MP and associated apps.

Probably totally unrelated but around the same time, I discovered that any app that needed to be installed that used the Wise Installation method would hang the installation process. And also Windows Notepad decided it didn't want to display the title bar, menu bar or border around the Notepad dialog box.

So, all in all, a wipe and reinstall solved everything for me.

I spoke too soon. After a complete reinstall of XP + MP I thought I had cured it. However, I did a recording last night and ended up with 3 files, one 64Kb, one 128Kb and the main recording. Both the small files appear to be blank.

The main recording appears to be missing the first few 10s of seconds - but maybe that's because my system clock is out slightly.

I'm going to run some further tests this afternoon and see if I can figure it out.

I'll keep an eye on it this weekend, do some tests and see if I can get a decent looking log.

I'm also getting a second tuner card next week (Compro T200), will see if I get the same effect there...

I think this would work better in the Bug forum? It seems to be some sort of bug in the MediaPortal recording engine, as far as I can tell, so maybe it would be best to try to get the post moved or something. Doesn't seem to be an issue that can really be solved in Support (ie it is probably not codec or hardware related).

I thought it might be to do with the quality setting of the recording but I get several files regardless of the quality setting. Interestingly, if the program has already started, and you schedule a recording via the TV Guide, (right click, record once etc etc) then MP starts recording immediately (obviously), but, I only get one file created.

Not sure where this is going to lead me as I'm fairly new to this...

Update - The same problem exists in MP 0.2.0.0 RC2 (2005-12-16). I'm going to take the advice of jawbroken and try and raise the issue in the bugs forum.

I was having the exact same problem with the segmented files whlie using MP RC3... Now I´m using CVS 30.3.2006 and I getting one single file but, even I put it to record 3 minutes before the show starts, it´s only recording the exact hour of the show (e.g. a 7:00-8:00 show set start recording 3 minutes earlier now gives one file 7:00-8:00 instead 6:57-8:00)
