Pressing Pause -> Play always results in a fault
Pressing Pause -> Pause is okay
Pressing Pause -> Pause 2x times quickly after another results in a fault again. So maybe it could be a timing issue?

Did above, with xvid, h.264 and live tv mpeg2, no problem what so ever.

Does the integrated ir receiver show as ehome or something else, may need to be HID device rather than mce remote.

If not, might be worthwhile trying irserversuite (here) or eventghost (google).

Thanks for trying. I broke it again anyway. I kinda had it fixed like I said, only marked the movies watched and skipped to the selection screen on said occasions, but now I reconfigured the rest (codecs, plugins, folders etc) and it's completely broken again. Responsiveness is back though, jeej!

Don't understand it though, got a clean setup in my opinion: PureVideo, CoreAVC, AC3Filter and DirectVobSub. No codecs packs (except for ffdshow, but with almost everything disabled except for some obscure audio codecs needed for a few animes) and no weird plugins either (disabled them all already, no change).

Removing the ehome ir device also didn't help unfortunately.
Can I assign the space bar to the pause key with the standad remote remap options? I could do it in the Harmony Software, but then you lose the layer functionallity.

Would of thought so, but that's a workaround, not really finding out what the problem really is, could you upload your logs after test, you need to be in debug mode, MP config\general log verbosity at bottom of window.

Sorry for my late response but had no Internet for the evening (feels like being handicapped) .

I have to remotes, 1 irtrans and 1 Gyration. The Gyration is configured as general HID and I use EventGhost for all the buttons that don't work by default.
I'm running MP for a while now and installed it several times but this is the first time I have this problem. The problem occurs with divx and mkv files but with live tv and recordings it works fine.

I always have ffdshow, PowerDVD, Haali Media Splitter and DirectVobSub installed. The video codecs I have configured are mpeg2: PowerDVD, H.264: PowerDVD and for audio also PowerDVD. I tried MPV as video codec but this didn't resolve it.

So my configuration is somewhat different then Raytestrak uses. But we experience the same problem

Okay, I've gathered the logs. I've tested with two media files, eleventh hour season 1 episodes 1 and 2. I've played the second episode first (isn't really logical now I think of it) and paused it with my remote and unpaused it with the spacebar on my keyboard. Episode 1 crashed because I used the space on my remote to pause and unpause. Thanks again for helping.

    *UPDATE*

    problem solved?
Remember that I said that it kinda worked when my system was all sluggish? I retraced my steps to find out what caused the sluggishnes and it's the audio renderer. I have an Aopen MiniPC with a realtek onboard audio device, connected via SP/DIF to my receiver.

    Bottomline: I have four options:
    Realtek Digital Output (Realtek ...
    Default Directsound Device
    Default WaveOut Device
Directsound Realtek Digital Output (Realtek high Definition ...

Default is Default Direct Sound Device which causes a slomotion htpc (for me)
Directsound Realtek Digital Output (Realtek high Definition ... gave me the problems described in this thread

    ...

and the other two work like a charm.

Still don't know why the High Def device doesn't work anymore, it always did before. Gonna test if DTS-ES still works, but I'm guessing it will
