    Hi,

Ive looked around the forums, and it seems that I am the only one having troubles at step 1? :) I will be going back to 1.0.0.0, which has been running nicely for me, but am hoping I can try out one of the svn builds.

When starting up MP (the latest svn from 23Jan), I get "Please install a newer DirectX 9.0c redist Media portal cannot run without DirectX 9.0c redist (August 2008)". After displaying this message, MP crashes.

I am running Vista 32 Home Premium with SP1.

    Logs attached.

    Hi!

... as far as i remember, you have to install the November release of directx

then it works for me without any issue

    cu

EDIT: Sorry after a look in your system specs, I noticed you use Vista ... so you need another version ...

Ah, OK, thank you guys. I have since gone back to 1.0.0.0 (or my kids will kill me cuz no movies :)).

I will try again, this time installing the August DirectX that you pointed me to. There is a later one I think - is that "better"? Im on Vista 32 SP1.

Also, a suggestion. Even though its a SVN test build, might be helpful if the installer were to point out that the update is necessary. I seem to recall one of the lines in the installer checking for DirectX and confirming I have the right one. Would eliminate confusion for future clueless people like me (or more correctly maybe the cluless should not be running SVN builds!) :)

I just installed the November one because MP complained about not having one up to date. And it worked..

sintei - are you on Vista32/SP1? And what SVN are you running (the latest February one or the Jan one)?

Im sorry i didnt provide info, my thoughts work faster than my fingers..

Yes, Im on Vista 32bit. Ive installed SP1 aswell.
Never had MP complain about the redist until i installed the latest SVN (21688).
So I DL the November redist one, installed fine, and MP worked.

Im a "real" administrator on my systems, UAC disabled, Defender disabled.

Now that I think about it: I installed MP server on one vista machine and MP client on another vista mashine. Only one required me to update the redist (!). Sorry, but i cant remember which one atm.

We found a bug in the installer: redist was downloaded but not installed :(

And August 2008 Redist (or newer) is fine for MP.

OK, sorry to beat a dead horse, but.....

My experience with previous SVN (23Jan) was that when I installed, the installer never downloaded anything for directx, and showed that no action was necessary (for directX). I believe that this is the same behavior that PD noticed (but not sure).

So, it seems that now, with 10Feb SVN, the installer notes that a directX update is needed, downloads the appropriate DirectX (November?), but does not install it automatically.

If the user now manually installs DirectX, November, MP with 10Feb SVN no longer displays that "you must update your DirectX" message, and all works fine.

Has my brain successfully understood this correctly? :)

    Thanks guys - MP rocks!
