I just wonder: would it be possible for you to develop this plugin, maybe just as a dummy and present it for the Spotify crew? Maybe it's easier to get a yes if we present the product. Maybe they think we expect them to develop this plugin...?
well, I guess it's possible to reverse engineer the protocols used for Spotify - but it wouldn't be legal. . .
I could do that, but not before an OK from Spotify.
look at this great software - MediaPortal. It supports external plugins that can play back webstreams etc. If we can release this plugin (insert screens of what it would look like), people still have to register at your site and everything to use it. Think about the increased user base you'll get for free, and the free PR.
I am not if this is legal or not or if this would be OK for MP community but check out despotify - the open source Spotify client
There are now an open source client for Spotify. Maybe something usefull for a plugin?
To translate the post above, today Spotify released a public API in c++ to the community. A premium account is required to register an appliation that uses the library. So this should really open up the possibility of a plugin to Media Portal!
