have you tried the S3 setting under MP general config?
"Allow S3 standby although....."
or this one:
"Apply workaround to fix MP freezing on resume..."

Also XP should not be doing the powersaving, i.e. have xp's settings to always on.

I have to use both options, plus have MP restart on resume. I have MP set to restart imon on exit.

First is set and machine handles S3 fine. If I turn off mini-display then it seems to be stable. Not quite sure about the second option but I am fairly sure this is the S3Hack fix which just makes sure different signals are sent on resume? (I have checked my mobo sends the correct signals so this should be ok)

XP is set to always on and powerscheduler in MP / TVserver handles S3.

Not at all. I do not use the IR so only using it as a display
