How do you move the programs from the Recordings folder, to the Video's section?
Do you do this via MP1 (if so how) or using Window Explorer?
MP1 does not have any facility for moving recordings from one folder to another :(. I don't know whether MP2 has a way of doing this. o_O

Once a week I get a keyboard out and manually create folders as required, and then move relevant recordings from the "Recordings" folder to the appropriate folders in the "Videos" section. There are three files to move for each recording (TS, JPG, and XML).

In MP1, the user specifies the "root" folder of each folder tree that he wants included in the "Videos" section (example: "E:\Drama"). Multiple such folders can be specified (this allows "Videos" to be spread over multiple physical disks if necessary). All subfolders within those top-level folders are found automatically by MP1, and so do not need to be specified individually -- you simply create the subfolders and MP1 will find them.

The final action required is to clean-up TV Server's list of files in the "Recordings" folder, i.e. get TV Server to delete the entries for the recordings that have been moved to "Videos". Although MP2 uses MP1's TV Server, I don't know how (or whether) it is possible to do this in MP2.

It would be great if the media-center software could handle all of this automatically, but MP1 and MP2 don't. So this manual house-keeping is required if you think that you might end up with a large collection of recordings (which is what has happened to me :D ).

Sorry, seems the tagging didn't work. I had no notification.
As @CyberSimian mentioned you exceeded a max number of files to be displayed. The limit should be at 5000 items, so your recordings seem to be a lot!
For reference the related thread (visible only for developers) https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/mp2-280-778-medialibrary-5000-item-limit.119861/page-11

You could set other filters to avoid this view, e.g. the channel filter, but there is not much choice.
@Brownard do you know why "year" filters and so on are more applicable for recordings?

    Many thanks for the reply.
Using Windows Explorer: I have checked the number of .ts files on this HTPC, which currently totals 5150.
When these were last displayed in the Rec\Program-List there were less than 2000, but this will include Series-Folders that contain several episodes, so I guess that is where the other 3150 are.

Obviously, as I'm not a developer, so I can't access the above developer-link.
So it seems there's not much a user can do to rectify this problem?
Q: Is there a reason why the designers have set a limit of 5000?
    Q: Can this be increased?

Above @CyberSimian suggested (as there is no way that a user can create folders on the fly)
of moving saved recordings to the video folder.
If possible: I would welcome a detailed example of how to do this?
    Many thanks.

PS: So does this mean that the developers are losing interest in MP?

There are generally less developers, because windows is not popular as OS and most Smart TVs have a lot of features already included. That’s generally the trend unfortunately.

If we can get the year filter or similar, this would already solve the issue. >5000 items in one screen would be not meaningful. @Brownard mentioned in the internal thread he could make it configurable. Perhaps this means setting an own limit and accept potential performance issues. The question is, if we want to add this due to one user request. I think nobody else bet the limit yet ;)

There are a lot of extra features that I would find very useful.
And I'm sure others would too.

Probably most people dont voice their desires/requirements because:
1: Dont think there suggestions would be welcome.
2: They dont know where or who to make them to.
3: Accept that this is how it is, and make do.
4: Accept that this is how it is, and use somthing else.

I guess it's alot to do with what the developers goal is?

    Thanks for the overview:

Is this shown in the MP setup info?

If my .ts TV program recordings are at say: E:\Recording
Could I move my saved recordings to say: E:\Video
or better still, into categories, in sub-folders like:
    E:\Video\TV-Music
    E:\Video\TV-Drama
    etc, etc
    And what about radio programs?
    would that be...
    E:\Video\Radio-Music
    E:\Video\Radio-Drama
    etc, etc

    Or just:
    E:\TV-Music
    E:\TV-Drama
    etc, etc

    E:\Radio-Music
    E:\Radio-Drama
    etc, etc

And would those categories then display in the "Video" section as...
    TV-Music
    TV-Drama
    etc, etc
    Radio-Music
    Radio-Drama
    etc, etc

Or would the programs all be shown together in the "Video" section...
(without the above folders) as one long list
(like they are currently shown in the Recordings-list)

    Many thanks.

In MP2 folders are generally ignored in „Library view“. Filters are intended to sort items. But you can switch to „Folder view“ and the folder structure is taken. But you loose the filter feature and a lot of visual benefits which demand the library view. You find the details in wiki, if you don’t know how to switch.

First thing to say is that I use MP1, whereas I believe that you use MP2. @ge2301 has just posted that MP2 has a "folder view" in addition to the "library view", so you should be able to set up your system as I describe below, but the details will differ.

In MP1, the folders that are to appear on the "Videos" panel are defined in "MP Config". Example:

    video_folders_1.jpg

The name in the "Name" column is the name that appears on the "Videos" panel, while the "Folder" column shows the folder that the name maps to. The names in these columns can be the same or completely different. Note:
    • The first line shows the entry for my NAS, which is usually switched off.
    • The folders all reside in the root folder of the relevant disk, but that is not required -- you can specify subfolders if you wish.
    • The "Documentaries" folder tree is too big for any of my disks, so I have had to split it into two parts "A-M" and "N-Z", which reside on different disks ("I:" and "J:" respectively).
    • Similarly, "Drama" should be in the "Entertainment" section, but when combined the resulting folder tree is too big for any of my disks, which is why "Drama" no longer resides in the "Entertainment" folder.
    • Finally, notice that three of the names in the "Name" column actually map to the same drive ("M:"), but to different folders on that drive.
The following screen shots show what you see when navigating the "Videos" folder tree. The first screen shot shows what you see on initial entry to the "Videos" panel, while successive screen shots show what you see when you select the item that has the focus. Selecting an item on the last screen shot starts playback of that item. The skin used is my own "Clarity" skin:

    video_folders_2.png video_folders_3.png video_folders_4.png
    video_folders_5.png

In MP1, the folder names can be what you choose, but the files listed show the Windows file name. This is different from the "Recordings" folder, which shows the programme name. I have edited my file names (manually!) to add the series number and episode number to the file name (the "(01-nn)" strings in the file name).

Hopefully MP2 will allow you to use a similar arrangement of files, but this will require some investigation and experimentation on your part.
