Hi - I've seen this problem for quite some time but it hasn't shown up on the forum so I thought I'd see if it's only happening to me...

When I watch TV programs recorded on my TV server through the "Recorded TV" page the screen just goes blank and sits there (but the timer is ticking over as if the video is playing) - I have to ffwd or skip to get the video playing.

However - if I browse to the share through the "My Video" pages the video plays fine.

I'm using the same audio and video codecs for both TV and Video.

I get the same behaviour with multiple clients and have seen it with many versions of but the server and client.

    Has anyone else seen this?

The two methods of play back are actually different. link to info.

    • MyTV Recorded programs played with the TV-Server create an rtsp stream.
    • MyVideos plays the file directly

It does not explain why during playback the screen goes blank, but explains that teh two playback method are different.

Have this problem if using mpeg recordings, also they seem to freeze every 10 minutes, if i record using TS files, no such problem occurs.

Still looking for a conclusive answer.

I also see freezing every 10 minutes or so, doesn't appear to be any solid pattern to it and the only way to get video playing again is to stop and restart the video.
Haven't yet tested with TS files, but the recorded Mpegs that freeze under Mediaportal (and also WMP11 on another machine) appear to play perfectly using VLC Media player

I'm wondering if the TS file size has any impact on this, as set to 256mb under general settings in TVE3, and windows is not reading any recorded\created mpeg files correctly and creating the problem.

Will try changing this setting and revert back to mpeg recording and see if any difference.

    will post back with results.

Hey guys - thanks for taking the time to respond - I'll try TS instead of MPG. (any idea which is better quality? Any other differences?)

I see this problem (only tried MPEG files so far) on my client machine, but the server plays the recording fine.

For information (I don't think it will matter), the recording was set up on the client.

It seems to be a general problem, so I haven't posted logs. If anyone wants them, let me know.

Out of interest, what advantages are there in having the server create an rtsp stream rather than the client playing the MPEG file directly? The only ones I can think if is that the client does not need direct access to the folder where the recording is stored (i.e. not a share) and the server can stream the same recording to two different clients.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Hey guys - I'm curious about why recorded TV is streamed rather than simply 'shared' - sharing would also have the 'benefit' of being able to store are "play from" point as with other video files. Just wondering...

Just had a look at the sources...
The recording is played directly if the file is found on the machine where the TvPlugin is running.
Don't know when this was implemented though.

This is actually the next item on my todo list ;)
But it might only work in single seat setup
