Problem with BBC1 EPG in UK (1 Viewer)

Hi

I am a MediaPortal noob, installing it just before Xmas. I am using the latest Release Candidate software and applied a CVS upgrade to overcome a problem with the EPG over the New Year boundary.

I now have a problem because it seems the EPG for BBC1 is not being updated but I am not sure where the cause lies. I have a Windows MCE running on another box and that's fine for BBC 1. I have a Freeview box and the EPG on that is fine for BBC1.

In EPG.LOG it says the following:

06/01/2006 15:57:17 auto-epg: card:1 grab epg for channel:BBC ONE expected:76 hours, last event in tv guide:05/01/2006 01:10:00, last grab :06/01/2006 00:00:00
06/01/2006 15:57:21 epg-grab: start EPG grabber:BBC ONE
06/01/2006 16:07:19 auto-epg: card:1 grab epg for channel:BBC TWO expected:173 hours, last event in tv guide:13/01/2006 00:10:00, last grab :06/01/2006 00:00:00
06/01/2006 16:07:23 epg-grab: start EPG grabber:BBC TWO
06/01/2006 16:38:31 auto-epg: card:1 grab epg for channel:Channel 4 expected:170 hours, last event in tv guide:12/01/2006 21:00:00, last grab :06/01/2006 00:00:00

Can anything be deduced from this, please?

Thanks in advance
Mal

    Hi Mal

The only thing i can think of is in setup within MediaPortal HomeSetup/General run through the installation and it gives you the opportunity to map to your region. BBC region ie Southwest, Northwest or whatever region your in. and see if that helps

Thanks Ray, I tried that but no luck.

I have since tried de-installing MP, deleting the MediaPortal and MediaPortal backup folders, then re-installing from scratch and applying the latest CVS to no effect.

    The EPG log now says

    10/01/2006 14:10:20 auto-epg: card:1 grab epg for channel:BBC ONE expected:1 hours, last event in tv guide:01/01/0001 00:00:00, last grab :10/01/2006 00:00:00

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mal

You don't say if your using xmltv or webepg, recommend webepg its a lot less hassle just go into webepg folder and and load config, import channels and save. and then run webepg.exe from mediaportal folder and that should pull in all channels stored in channel list. and if you aint got a channel list enter setup TV/channels and hit backup. hope that helps. but if you have dvb-t card im sure by default it also downloads epg over air, box ticked in xmltv epg setup. have to check daughter playingt games on my htpc.

    Hi,

I am seeing exactly the same thing. This is with BBC1 Wales. All of the other BBC channels (from the same transmitter presumably) are fine with the EPG. My system is grabbing EPG data from the DVB stream.

Any suggestions of things we can try? Other software (ShowShifter) is fine.

I have my system configured with two DVB-T cards, in case that might be a common factor.

Hi I am grabbing from the DVB-T stream too...but I only have one card.

I am sure htere is a bug of some sort but cannot pin it down because I don;t understand quite what is going on!

I tried deleting the guide database and when it got recreated I got the BBC1 EPG but not BBC2 or ITV :(

I tried deleting the database again and now I have no EPG at all.

I think another de-install/re-install may be needed.

    Ok got some more info....

Having deleted the EPG database....Mediaportal lost "contact" with the TV card....so a power off power on cycle got the TV card back. After a short while the EPG started to populate. Unfortunately no EPG info for BBC1, BBC2 or ITV 1. The rest are fine.

When I checked the epg.log file I noticed the following...

12/01/2006 11:09:10 epg: old programs removed
    12/01/2006 11:09:10 epg-grab: updating tv database:71
    12/01/2006 11:09:10 epg-grab: adding new programs
    12/01/2006 11:09:10 epg-grab: channel:BBC ONE events:138
    12/01/2006 11:09:10 epg-grab: channel:BBC TWO events:134
    12/01/2006 11:09:10 epg-grab: channel:BBC THREE events:61
    12/01/2006 11:09:10 epg-grab: add:'BBC THREE'
    12/01/2006 11:09:12 epg-grab: channel:BBC NEWS 24 events:139
    12/01/2006 11:09:12 epg-grab: add:'BBC NEWS 24'
    12/01/2006 11:09:14 epg-grab: channel:CBBC Channel events:133
    12/01/2006 11:09:14 epg-grab: add:'CBBC Channel'
    12/01/2006 11:09:18 epg-grab: channel:ITV1 events:175
    12/01/2006 11:09:18 epg-grab: channel:ITV3 events:90
    12/01/2006 11:09:18 epg-grab: add:'ITV3'
    12/01/2006 11:09:19 epg-grab: channel:ITV2 events:131
    12/01/2006 11:09:19 epg-grab: add:'ITV2'
    12/01/2006 11:09:22 epg-grab: channel:ITV4 events:78
    12/01/2006 11:09:22 epg-grab: add:'ITV4'

It seems the "problem" channels don't have the add: statement associated...is there something in this or a red herring?

Hi guys, bear with me as I've only been using Mediaportal for a couple of weeks now, but I've got EPG probs as well. I'll try and get a mo tomorrow to fill out a support template and dig out the log files, but in the meantime I'm missing:

    - ITV1
    - Quiz Call
    - More4
    - bid tv
    - price-drop tv

I've got BBC1 and BBC2 fine though. There are some other channels missing EPG but I assume that's because they're encrypted as part of Top-Up TV.

I'm on Crystal Palace, about five miles away with a rooftop aerial and no issues with picture break-up, low signal, etc. MP is CVS from a couple of days ago, TV card is Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T with latest drivers downloaded today.

Just one thought, as I'd been suffering the same issue:
Have you tried to tick the All button (ie all languages) under the DVB-EPG Grapper box on Program Guide?
