OK - I've played around a bit more and seem to be making some progress. I think the first programme I tried to cut was an mpeg - the fastforward/rewind buttons on the remote seem to work in videoeditor with this but not with dvr-ms files? And there was no sound with the mpeg cutversion. Finally managed to work out the slider - am i right that once it's playing the only way I could get the slider to wotk (using the keyboard buttons only) was to double click on it with the mouse - then use the L/R arrows? - that was the only way I could seem to get it to work anyway. Sound was ok on the dvr-ms file. Also it appears that the cut version is automatically saved as mpeg rather than original dvr-ms?

Also can someone please explain how videoeditor converts to divx? I can't find any option for it in the menu - the menu only gives me options for cut or convert to mpeg! I downloaded mencoder and it is installed in the main mediaportal directory (in my case called d:\teammediaportal). I also note that in the initial instructions it says thatif you already have mencoder you can got to videoeditor configuration and change the path to it. Ummm I had a look and there don't seem to be any options at all for videoeditor in setup - plugins - just enable/disable??

Sorry for being such a dumbass but I'm not a computer techie type - just a user - I don't understand all the techo stuff but am generally ok in following instructions so long as they're clear. Unfortunately that's really my only small criticism of MP - the documentation for simple users ain't good - it presupposes a fairly high technical knowledge. eg It would be reallynice for clear explanations of what things do and how they are done - such as I don't even understand the database stuff - eg like tv recordings added to movie database - well I don't know what that means or does - as far as I can see the recorded tv is saved in it's own directory so what happens after it's recorded and added to the movie database? I don't have a clue! It's still accessed from recorded tv in mytv and presumably would be whether or not it was added to the movie database - see - told you I was dumb.

    Hi NZOldFart,

it seems you got messed up a bit.
The Dvr-MpegCut version you downloaded is only needed for old Versions of MP.
As it seems you have the actual version of mediaPortal VideoEditor is now part of MP itself and just needs to be enabled.
Between the official releases of MediaPortal developers improve the functions of MediaPortal
and but the changes to SVN, which is a kind of work in progress Verson of MP
    untill the next official release.
in meantime a lot of bugs you mentioned have been fixed and also thee divx conversion has been added to SVN.
If you would like to play wiht the latest changes of MP you need to install the latest SVN-build or wait for the next release.

Please read this thread for further information and please post upcoming issues there, too.

Maybe it will help you a bit to get the right way.
It's not always that complicated, but you just started the wrong way with Dvr-MpegCut?
And don't give up, even people who are less "computer techie type" than you
are working fine with VideoEditor. :)

    Regards
    Ralph
